Every sport has its own demands. In equestrian sports, the surface must be designed not only for the rider, but especially for the horse.

At the new Derby Field at Wellington International South, Richard Hayden led a carefully planned approach to the construction and establishment of the field, with World Sports proud to contribute alongside the teams and partners involved in bringing the project to life.

In this video, Richard shares some of the thinking behind the decision to establish the field with sod and takes us below the surface to show something just as important: the root development.

A strong, healthy root system is fundamental to creating a resilient and stable turf surface, especially in an environment exposed to the unique and heavy traffic generated by horses.

It is a great example of why sports turf management must always begin by understanding the specific demands of each sport and its athletes, whether they have two legs or four.

We are proud to be part of this project and to work alongside Richard and everyone involved in delivering this new field at Wellington International South.

This is just a glimpse behind the scenes. Watch the full feature on Wellington International's YouTube channel. Link in our Stories.

From a field overtaken by w**ds and bare spots to a completely new playing surface.

Swipe through to see the transformation at West Park Sports Complex in Tampa, Florida.

When our team first evaluated the baseball field, the existing turf had significant w**d infestation, inconsistent coverage, and areas that could no longer deliver the quality expected from the surface.

The solution was a complete renovation.

The process started with herbicide applications to eliminate the existing vegetation, followed by site preparation and the different stages required to rebuild the playing surface and establish new turf.

Photo by photo, you can see how the field evolved throughout the project and how quickly the new surface began to take shape.

A great example of what proper planning, agronomic expertise, and ex*****on can do for a sports field.

Swipe to see the transformation.

Our team recently completed a full renovation of the baseball field at West Park Sports Complex in Tampa, Florida, and the transformation is already impressive.

Just one week after planting, the new turf is establishing quickly, with strong early rooting and the field already taking on a completely new look.

This Reel takes you through some of the key stages of the renovation, from the work beneath the surface to the establishment of the new turf.

Precision isn't optional on a sports pitch. It's the difference between a surface that performs and one that just looks green.

Every pass matters. The height, the line, the consistency across the whole field. That's what protects the grass, keeps the ball rolling true, and gives athletes a surface they can trust at full speed.

This is the standard Dennis Mowers brings to natural sports turf. Cut right, every time.

We're proud to be an official representative, and even prouder to have this equipment as part of our own operations.

A small lip can become a big problem.

For baseball and softball field managers, the transition between the infield skin and the turf deserves constant attention. Over time, dragging, play, maintenance practices, and material movement can create a raised edge, commonly known as a lip.

And this is much more than an aesthetic issue.

An uneven transition can affect ball roll and bounce, interfere with surface drainage, and create an inconsistent area that can impact both playability and player safety.

That is why Lip Repair should be part of a proactive maintenance program.

The process removes accumulated material and restores a smooth, consistent transition between the turf and the infield, helping improve surface performance and preventing the lip from becoming a larger and more complex issue over time.

If you manage a baseball or softball facility, don’t wait until the lip becomes obvious. Regular inspection and preventive correction can make a significant difference in field quality, safety, and long term maintenance costs.

What if you could understand what is happening beneath the surface before the turf shows you there is a problem?

That is exactly why data has become such an important part of high performance sports turf management.

POGO technology allows our team to collect and monitor key soil and turf indicators, including moisture, salinity and temperature, helping us understand how conditions vary across the field and make more precise agronomic decisions.

These days, we are using POGO at the Dallas Cowboys Training Camp in Oxnard, California, as part of our ongoing monitoring of the playing surfaces.

Why does it matter? Because a field can look perfectly green while different areas are behaving very differently below the surface. Data helps us identify those variations, optimize irrigation, monitor stress conditions and act proactively instead of waiting for visible symptoms to appear.

At the highest level, turf management cannot rely on appearance alone.

Measure. Understand. Adjust. Perform.

A strong start makes all the difference when establishing a new sports turf surface.

In Gainesville, Florida, our team is carrying out the first fertilization of a newly installed TifTuf Bermudagrass field, providing the nutrients needed to support healthy establishment and early development.

At the same time, we are applying a pre-emergent herbicide as a preventive strategy to help reduce w**d germination and establishment during this critical phase.

In this project, monitoring is especially important because the turf was not installed over a predominantly sand-based rootzone, increasing the need for careful w**d management as the new surface establishes.

And for those who like to know exactly what goes into the field: swipe to the last photo of the carousel for a bonus. We’ve included the product label used in this application.

High performance turf starts with the right decisions from day one.

Why does surface firmness matter even more in football?

Because every play begins with explosive acceleration, rapid changes of direction, and powerful impacts. The playing surface must provide the right balance between stability, traction, and shock absorption to support both performance and player safety.

That is why measuring surface firmness is not something we do once. It is an ongoing process.

Throughout the Dallas Cowboys Summer Training Camp, our team has been regularly monitoring surface firmness across the fields, collecting data and making adjustments whenever needed to ensure the playing conditions remain consistent day after day.

At the highest level of sports, every detail matters. And the best decisions are always driven by data.
