Preparing the new Derby Field at Wellington International for its next important step: overseeding!

Our team has started verti-cutting, an essential part of preparing the existing turf for successful seed establishment.

But why is this process so important?

It helps remove excess organic material, reduce thatch, and open up the turf canopy, creating better conditions for new seeds to reach the soil.

This improves seed-to-soil contact, allows more sunlight and air to reach the surface, and helps promote more uniform germination and establishment.

For a high-performance equestrian field like Wellington International's new Derby Field, every detail matters. Proper preparation is key to developing a dense, consistent, and resilient playing surface capable of meeting the demands of world-class equestrian competition.

A major milestone for the new Derby Field at Wellington International!

For the first time, horses stepped onto the new playing surface for its initial field tests. And we couldn't be more excited about the results and the incredibly positive feedback we received!

After months of planning, engineering, and hard work, seeing this remarkable project come to life is a special moment for everyone involved.

In this video, our Founder and CEO Roberto Gomide joins our longtime partner Richard Hayden, the expert leading this project, for a conversation directly from Wellington, Florida.

Richard invited World Sports to be part of this ambitious project, and it has been a privilege to contribute alongside an outstanding team of professionals.

Both Richard and Roberto were on-site to closely follow these first tests, and they left more excited than ever about what lies ahead.

We can't wait to see the incredible moments and stories that will unfold on this new Derby Field, a venue we believe has everything it takes to become a new benchmark for the equestrian world.

What happens when your stadium needs a new playing surface, but the schedule doesn't allow months for establishment?

For stadium managers and turf professionals, time is often one of the biggest challenges when planning a field renovation.

Traditional sprigging can be an excellent solution, but it requires a longer establishment period before the turf is ready to withstand the demands of professional sports.

That's where Ready-to-Play (RTP) turf makes a difference.

Grown and harvested as mature, established turf, RTP is delivered in large rolls that can be installed directly onto a properly prepared field, dramatically reducing the time required to establish a new playing surface.

This can be particularly valuable for stadiums managing tight competition schedules, major events, or limited renovation windows.

Of course, proper installation, rooting, and field testing remain essential before the surface is cleared for play. But when every day matters, choosing the right turf establishment method can make all the difference.

Seeing the new Wellington International arena in Florida taking shape is one of those moments that makes us incredibly proud.

Behind these beautiful images lies an extraordinary amount of planning, engineering, and technical expertise. With the water table sitting just 500 mm below the surface, creating a high-performance equestrian field required innovative solutions, careful design, and exceptional ex*****on.

Designed by our longtime partner Richard Hayden and his team at Hayden Turfcare, this remarkable project brought together an outstanding group of professionals, including Austin and Harvey from Matador, Travis from JTWG, and our World Sports team, with on-site supervision and delivery led by Aidan O’Hara.

We are truly grateful to Richard for inviting us to be part of this journey and proud to have contributed alongside such talented professionals.

Projects like this are a reminder that great sports surfaces are never the result of individual efforts. They are built through collaboration, shared expertise, and a commitment to excellence.

Every field has a purpose. Every client has different needs. And every project deserves a solution designed around them.

At World Sports, we believe that delivering great sports facilities starts with understanding what our clients really need and finding the best technical and operational solutions to make it happen.

A great example is a recent project we completed in Tampa, Florida, where our team transformed one large baseball field into four smaller playing fields.

The client needed to maximize the use of the existing space, creating more opportunities for games, practices, and different activities. Our challenge was to turn that vision into reality.

With the right planning, technical expertise, and operational capabilities, we were able to adapt the facility to meet those specific needs.

Because our job goes beyond building and maintaining sports fields. It's about understanding each client's goals and delivering solutions that make their facilities work better for them.

The future of sports turf starts with knowledge, collaboration, and the next generation of professionals.

This week, our team, including World Sports Founder and CEO Roberto Gomide and Technical Director Fabio Camara, attended SIGRA, Brazil’s largest sports turf symposium, bringing together leading professionals, companies, researchers, and students from across the industry.

With Brazil preparing to host the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027, conversations about sports turf quality, technology, and management have never been more relevant.

But one of the most inspiring aspects of this year’s event was seeing the growing participation of young agronomy students and future professionals, actively contributing research, sharing new perspectives, and engaging in technical discussions.

This connection between academia and the industry is essential. It is how we develop new solutions, advance scientific knowledge, and continue raising sports turf standards, not only in Brazil, but throughout the Americas.

For World Sports, it was a privilege to exchange experiences with so many professionals and an honor to once again serve as the event’s Master Sponsor.

What makes an equestrian grass field perform when the rain comes?

In Wellington, Florida, that is a critical question. The region is home to some of the world's most important equestrian venues, but it also faces periods of intense rainfall, making drainage and subsurface infrastructure essential parts of any high-performance field design.

And much of what makes the difference is something spectators will never see.

In this video, our longtime partner Richard Hayden explains how the new Derby Field at Wellington International South was designed to manage these challenging conditions and why what happens below the surface is just as important as the turf we see above it.

Proper drainage, soil profile, and field infrastructure are what allow a surface to manage water efficiently and continue delivering the conditions horses and riders need.

We are proud to work alongside Richard and the other partners involved in bringing this outstanding project to life.

Because sometimes, the most important part of a great field is what you can't see.

A first-of-its-kind turf case in Brazil.

For the first time in Brazil, an existing stadium pitch was removed and successfully transplanted to a professional training center.

The project took place at Morumbis, home of São Paulo FC, a three-time world champion. With the stadium preparing for a major schedule of concerts that would impact the existing pitch, we saw an opportunity to give that turf a new destination instead of simply removing it.

Traditionally, this type of process starts at a sod farm, with turf harvested and transported to a stadium or training facility. This time, we brought those same practices directly to the stadium, carefully removing the existing turf at Morumbis and transporting it to São Paulo FC’s training center, where it was successfully installed and established as a new playing surface.

A field that has already been part of so many unforgettable moments in football history, and one we are proud to continue taking care of today.

World Sports has managed the pitch at Neo Química Arena since its construction, which we also carried out in 2013. Since then, this field has hosted the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the Olympic Games, and many other major competitions.

And we are still here, working every day to maintain this pitch at the highest level and prepare it for the many new chapters still ahead.

One of those chapters is getting closer. In 2027, Brazil will host the FIFA Women's World Cup, and Neo Química Arena will once again be part of the global football stage.

For us, there is tremendous pride in continuing to care for a field that has already witnessed so much history and in preparing it today for everything that comes next.
