Empowered owners Emily & CJ (and mini co-owner Ada-Grace) have officially made it safely to their new, but temporary, home in Ohio!

A word from Emily:

"Thank you all for the incredible support as we step into this temporary chapter in Ohio ✈️
Leaving what we built wasn’t easy, but supporting this season of Air Force life together makes it meaningful and we are so grateful to take on this adventure as a family ❤️

While this move is temporary, our mission isn’t, and I will still be working remotely with some intermittent visits along the way! We’re so grateful for a community that stands behind us no matter the zip code. This is just a “see you later,” not a goodbye! We know that the gym will be in good hands with our incredible staff and gym community! 🏋🏽‍♂️🏋🏻‍♀️ We love you all and I'll see you soon!"

We wish them all the best and can't wait to see them during their next visit! 🌴

Everyone please welcome the newest member of the Empowered Strength & Movement team, Ryan! 💪

Hi there, my name’s Ryan! I’m a Tampa Bay native with a Bachelor’s in Kinesiology from the University of Central Florida.

With an extensive history in athletics - both competing and coaching - I’ve had the privilege of training people of all ages and backgrounds. From individuals on the autism spectrum, to military personnel, first-responders, youth, and the elderly, it’s always a joy training someone from a different walk of life.

With my training focused on a sports-performance context, I provide people with the knowledge, tools and skills needed for success in and outside the gym. I look forward to aiding you on your fitness journey!

Fit Tip Tuesday: progressing your deadlifts!

Last week we focused on mastering the hip hinge -this week we’re applying that same movement pattern to the deadlift.

Starting with the trap bar can make learning the deadlift feel a little more approachable by keeping the load closer to your center of mass and starting slightly higher off the ground. From there, we can progress to the barbell while maintaining the same hinge mechanics and positioning.

If you’re looking for some extra help improving your hinge, shoot us a DM!

Fit Tip Tuesday: Building confidence in your deadlift🤩

The deadlift is one of the most foundational and functional movements, and before you add weight, you need to master the hip hinge.

Using a PVC or dowel can be a helpful way to learn the pattern. From there, progress to kettlebell or dumbbell RDLs to start loading the movement while keeping the weight close to your body, building confidence before progressing to a barbell.

Next week, we’ll build on this with the trap bar and barbell deadlift!
