Stretch-n-Grow of Upstate SC is an early childhood fitness & nutrition education program.

Our Certified Youth Fitness Professionals bring an "EXERciting" fitness program into preschools, daycares, and elementary schools. We use kid-sized equipment, fun music and "FUNtastic" adventures to help promote an active lifestyle and healthy eating habits.

Our motor skill of the week is catching! In our classes we practice catching scarves,
bean bags, balls, and other fun equipment during our adventures. A fun way to practice at home is
to go outside and toss a ball back and forth.


Today is National Day of Encouragement. How can you encourage someone today? Here are three
easy ideas! ❤️
1. Thank them
2. Compliment them
3. Share how they made an impact on you


Show us those biceps! This week in we will be focusing on strengthening and learning
about our biceps!

We are so grateful for the opportunity to work with so many children around the world.
We love to teach them how to love exercising and about how their bodies work. It’s so
fun when kids get to go home and teach their family the names of their BIG, STRONG
muscles! 💪🏼


This week in we are discussing how to eat the rainbow! Fruits and vegetables of different colors offer different health benefits. When we say “eat the
rainbow” we don’t mean to add colorful artificially made foods to your plate. Instead,
opt for naturally brightly colored fruits and vegetables.


Is your child experiencing some back-to-school anxiety? Give them a hug! “According
to a recent study, frequent hugging can actually help alleviate cold symptoms, and
previous research has shown that hugging can also reduce blood pressure, anxiety
and other ailments.” 🌟


This week we are celebrating family heroes in our classes! 🤟

If you’re making a few last-minute trips to the beach or lake before school starts, we just
want to remind you to always be water aware! Here are a few tips from the American
Red Cross. The full list can be found at the link below.
🌟 Swim in designated areas supervised by lifeguards.
🌟 Always swim with a buddy; do not allow anyone to swim alone.
🌟 Never leave a young child unattended near water and do not trust a child’s
life to another child; teach children to always ask permission to go near
🌟 Have young children or inexperienced swimmers wear U.S. Coast Guard approved life jackets around water, but do not rely on life jackets alone.
🌟 Maintain constant supervision.

There’s nothing better than summertime snacks. Cold fruits and veggies are a perfect
choice on a hot day–AND they’re good for you! 🍏🍉

This week’s is Warrior 2. Here’s how you can practice at home:
1. Face the long side of your mat with your arms stretched straight out from your
shoulders and your feet parallel to each other in a wide stance. You want your
ankles approximately beneath your wrists.
2. Turn your right foot and knee to face the front of the mat.
3. Angle your left toes slightly in toward the upper left corner of the mat.
4. Bend your right knee and stack it over your right ankle.
5. Distribute your weight evenly between both legs. Press down through the outer
edge of your back foot.
6. Keep the crown of your head stacked over your pelvis and your shoulders over
your hips.
7. Reach strongly through both arms toward the front and back of the mat and
turn your head to look past your right fingertips.
8. Stay here for 5–10 breaths.
9. To come out of the pose, exhale as you press down through your feet, then
inhale and straighten your legs. Return your feet to parallel facing the left long
side of the mat.
10. Repeat on the other side.


Sun safety is so important! Don’t forget your hat and sunglasses. Your skin and eyes will
thank you later. ☼



This week in we are talking about the benefits of red foods:
✅ Protecting the body from some types of cancer.
✅ Reducing tumor growth.
✅ Protecting the body from harmful free radicals.
✅ Protecting the body against heart disease.
✅ Lowering blood pressure.
✅ Lowering LDL cholesterol, which is the bad cholesterol in the body.
✅ Supporting joint tissue for those with arthritis.
✅ Keeping one regular by aiding in gastrointestinal health.

Did you know that shoulder shrugs are a great exercise? They help with posture and supporting your neck. Pick up a weight in each hand to increase the intensity. 💪


In this week, our featured exercise is climbing. Many parks and playgrounds offer an opportunity for your child to work on this skill. Climbing a tree is
always fun too, with parent supervision, of course!
