Old Fogie Softball

Old Fogie Softball Sunday Softball 9:30 - 12:30 The field is located behind Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Teaneck, NJ off of Salem Rd.

Located in Teaneck, NJ, Old Fart Softball is a community pick-up softball league that meets on Sunday mornings and holidays to play. If the weather is fair and above 40 degrees, they should be playing.

We pulled off a very successful "double header" over the Labor Day holiday weekend. In the first game, on Sunday, we had 21 participants. The home team won comfortably 26-18 in an 8 inning game. Among the highlights were Manny slugging 2 doubles and a triple; Pyramid Builder with a driving shoe string catch in center and triple up the hill in right field. OG Chuck slugged a double over the of everyone to center field. We hope that Omar has a speedy recovery from a pulled hammy.

In the second game of the "double header", on Monday, we also had 21 participants. We welcomed back Daniel and Randy. Again, the home team won, this time by a score of 23-7 in a full 9 inning game. Dave C was stellar on the mound for the home squad. Pyramid Builder had another stellar diving catch in center and then drove a shot to deep left for a triple. Danny made a great diving catch at third, and Julius slugged his first home run.

We look to keep things rolling as the calendar heads into fall. As some people will be celebrating holidays this weekend, please RSVP your intentions for the game this week. Everything else has been going smoothly, so congratulation to everyone.

Another successful week of Old Fart Softball is in the books. Last week, we had a turnout of 18. The game was generally close and well played with the away side hanging on for a 13-11 victory. We welcomed back Randy and were glad the John Ross paid us a visit. Some of the game highlights were Eli making a great catch running down the hill and into foul territory in RF, Gabe with a triple and home run, Julius with a triple to deep LF, and Will sticking out his glove from the pitchers mound to snag a hard line drive.

This week (9/6 and 9/7) we are looking to play a "double header" with games on both Sunday and Monday. Hopefully Mother Nature allows us the opportunity. As it is a holiday weekend and vacation weekend, Please RSVP with your intentions for BOTH Sunday and Monday. If we do not get enough positive (14 please) RSVPs by Sunday evening, for Monday's game, we will not play.

Thank you to everyone for getting to the field, and ready to play, for us to get in a full 9 innings. Lets keep up the good work.

So, last week was a wash out for Old Fart Softball, and that makes for a quick weekly recap. The poor field conditions were the main culprit with second base turned into a swimming pool. Hopefully this week will bring better field conditions. Again, lets do our best to keep play on the lower field and when working on the fields, keep the dirt on the dirt. We do not want to antagonize anyone.

I am glad to report that there were no police, no Board of Ed, nor any groundskeepers laying in wait to cancel Old Fart Softball last week, Everything went on as normal. We had 25 hearty souls come out. The final score was 12-4 to the home team. We welcomed back, after a long hiatus Jordan!! We also welcomed for the first time, George. A few of the highlights of the week were; Jason hitting a shot to the fence in left center; Omar caught a (life saving?) line drive right back to the pitcher; and Jen with a no look backhand shovel throw to 2B for a great force out. Thank you everyone for coming out after the previous week.

The rules such as they are remain the same. As the weather heading into Sunday is going to be a little wet, as we get the field playable, lets keep the dirt on the dirt. Also, lets keep things to the lower field if at all possible.

Well, last week was not our finest hour. With 24 in attendance, our game was stopped in the top of the third inning by a Board of Education employee who did not like the way we made the upper field playable, as the bottom field was unplayable. We left before the police showed up.

With that in mind, this week, please only attempt to play on the lower field, which should be in ok shape as it really has not rained this week. If anyone from the Board of Ed, or the police asks us to leave please do so without any questions. They might be keeping "an eye out". I hope everything goes smoothly this week, and this is just water under the bridge.

Unfortunately, i will not be able to play this week, but I hope to see everyone next week.

Another great week of Old Fart Softball is in the books. Turn out was 24. Fortunately, the game this past week was much better than the previous one. This week, the Home Team came out victorious with a rally in the bottom of the 9th to win 19-18. OG Chuck laced a double down the line for 2 RBI. In the top of the 9th, Danny smacked a game tying home run. Christian kept the score tied with a great shoestring catch, allowing his team to come out victorious in the bottom of the 9th. Also, kudos to Alex for surviving a collision at home plate with Joe.

We look to keep our momentum going this week. lets all do what we have been doing to make this season so wonderful.

There was a lot to like about last week's game. Unfortunately, the score was not one of them. The Home Team ran out to a huge lead and never, ever looked back, eeeking out a 31-1 victory. The game was scoreless after 2 innings. The positives for the week were the gorgeous weather and the great turn out of 25. The highlight of the game was Omar pitching 9 innings of 1 run Old Fart Softball. Defensively, Eli made two nice catches in CF and Manny had a few excellent plays at 3B . Pyramid Builder had a monster shot to LF that almost made the trees., and Gabe also had a monster shot to deep CF for a grand slam.

Lets keep everything rolling this coming week. Please continue to arrive "on time" so we can in a full 9 inning game. Everything else remains the same

Well, I was glad to hear there was a game last week despite the heavy rains we had all week. While I did not receive a game report, I did hear that Zach had an "inside" the park home run. Please feel free to fill in the balks for those who were not there.

Lets keep this season rolling along with another great Sunday of softball. So far we have been great at arriving "on time" and getting in a full 9 inning game. Everything else remains the same. The weather on Sunday is supposed to be great.

Well, last week was as close to perfect as one can ask for. The weather is gorgeous. The turn out was awesome with 27 in attendance. We played 14 on 13 with 12 in the field. The game itself was close with a nice balance of offense and defense. The away squad plated 7 runs in the top of the 9th to eek out a 13-12 victory. Eli made the play of the game with a juggling, two handed grab in CF. OG Chuck made a great catch on a low line drive at 2B. And, Will made numerous plays at 2B, We also saw our first "quadruple mitt pound" from Pyramid Builder.

After the game, a number of people said they were not able to make this weeks game, so, with that in mind, lets please RSVP so those who plan to come know what to expect when they leave. We have been doing a tremendous job of getting the game started on time and getting a full 9 innings, so lets keep that up. Other then that, everything else remains the same.

So, I am hoping that there was a game last week and that it was a good one. I did not receive a game report. Please, fill in the blanks if you wish. With that in mind, lets keep the season rolling long this week. The "rules" such as they are remain the same. Turnout has been great, We have been doing a good job arriving on time, getting the game started and finishing a full 9 innings.
