Boxing has lost a true legend. Wilfredo ‘Bazooka’ Gómez has died at the age of 69.
One of Puerto Rico’s greatest fighters, Gómez won world titles in three divisions and finished with 44 wins, three defeats and one draw, 42 by knockout. His incredible record of 17 consecutive world title defenses by knockout remains one of the sport’s finest achievements.
A feared puncher, a national hero and a fighter who helped define a golden era of boxing. His battles with Salvador Sánchez, Lupe Pintor and Azumah Nelson will never be forgotten.
Gómez's place in boxing immortality is secure.
