CALIFORNIA COURT OF APPEAL RULES TO PROTECT OHV USE AT OCEANO DUNES

We are extremely pleased that, once again, the courts have upheld the legality of off-road recreation at Oceano Dunes! EcoLogic Partners has been a co-litigant in the comprehensive legal battle that has spanned many years to keep Oceano Dunes State Vehicle Recreation Area (ODSVRA) open and accessible for motorized recreation and camping.
EcoLogic Partners’ legal efforts for ODSVRA are funded and supported by California Four Wheel Drive Association (Cal4Wheel), American Sand Association (ASA), along with fellow OHV access advocacy organizations including ORBA, AMA District 37, and SEMA. This week, the California Court of Appeal in Ventura upheld the ruling that the California Coastal Commission (CCC) exceeded its authority in attempting to ban OHV recreation at Oceano Dunes! Welcome to the First Day of Spring. While it does not appear the "oven" will kick in anytime soon, it's always a good excuse to get in one more good ride!
Enjoy your spring dune time. Take time to stop and enjoy the moment and be thankful for the freedoms we have in this great country.

Our dunes need these grants to sustain the operations and improve our recreational opportunities as we grow in use. Our support in writing to the CA OHV Commission really makes a difference. Necessities like signage, restrooms, law enforcement, general maintenance operations and more are affected by these grants. Get in your two cents.

The public comment period for the 2025 Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Grants is now open through May 5, 2025, at 5 p.m. (PST).

These grants support responsible recreation and land stewardship on public lands. This is your opportunity to review and provide input on preliminary applications submitted by BLM California offices to California State Parks, Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division, which administers the OHV Grants Program. Public feedback helps ensure these efforts align with community needs and the long-term sustainability of OHV recreation.

Did you know… One of our members asked what the rules are, so here they are.
In General:
• Gray and black water are considered untreated sewage.
• Dumping gray or black water on the ground can result in a fine or even jail time.
• Imperial County Penalties: imprisonment in county jail for not more than six months and by a fine of not less than five hundred dollars ($500.00) nor more than one thousand dollars ($1,000.00).

All water that has flowed through an RV's plumbing and holding tank is considered sewage. However, water from outdoor activities like washing dishes in a dishpan or showering outside the RV are not typically classified as sewage.

The primary concern with gray water disposal is the volume of water released at one time. Additionally, gray water that has been stored in a holding tank for several days poses health risks due to the buildup of bacteria, which can cause disease and unpleasant odors.

Daylight saving time (DST), also referred to as daylight saving(s), daylight savings time, daylight time (United States and Canada), or summer time (United Kingdom, European Union, and others), is the practice of advancing clocks to make better use of the longer daylight available during summer so that darkness falls at a later clock time.
The typical implementation of DST is to set clocks forward by one hour in spring or late winter and back by one hour to standard time in autumn (or fall in North American English, hence the mnemonic "spring forward and fall back").

We know gas prices change often, but when you're recreating at Glamis, but sure to support our President's Circle Sponsor, Shelee's Travel Centers on Dillon Road. Stop there for food, fuel, supplies, and more. They are on the team.

It always brings smiles to our faces to see so many cars running American flags in the dunes. Patriotism is alive and well. Be sure to join those groups you believe in (like ASA) so we can protect your right to ride and the freedom to enjoy sand sports.

ASA wishes you nothing but fun and happiness in the dunes! Please be sure to keep safety your number one priority so we call get home safely. Dune Smart.

Littering in the dunes goes against everything we hold sacred at Glamis (and everywhere there's sand). It is just wrong. Please, report litter bugs and do your part to help us keep the dunes clean (and free of tire getters). The best thing we can all do is set the example and do it right!

How Much is Your Playground Worth?

We currently have 14,000 members on our ASA group page and less than 900 people who actually support us with $25 per year to help us keep the dunes open! Where would you go if your playground was taken away? More and more of our off-road riding areas are closing or being reduced significantly in size. Look at Pismo/Oceano for example.

In 2000, 49,000 acres of the Imperial Sand Dunes were closed to riding and with the ASA’s help, over 2 million dollars in attorney fees, and over 15 years of battling it out in the courts, we were finally able to get 40,000 acres reopened to riding. We couldn’t have done it without support from our members and business sponsors.

The fight is not over! In addition to maintaining the riding opportunities in the dunes, we are still working on getting access back to Patton Valley Road in the South Dunes via the Sand Highway. We are also working on providing safe access across the tracks for those who want to recreate on trails East of the dunes.

We can’t do these things without your help. Please sign up for a Supporting Membership and help us keep your favorite riding area open! You can do so via our website at www.asasand.org or click the sign up button on our page and it will take you to our store where you can select the $25 Supporting Membership.
