Throughout years we have had a lot of players and coaches that have come to put in work or to have just a place to work, or sometimes both.. Arizona World of Baseball has always been a home for guys who have been in, out, or just around the game of baseball.. players suffering from injuries or maybe have been released from spring training.. These guys are great with players until they move one to the next thing.. One of the best was a second baseman and one of Pat Kelleher closes friends, Jackie Rexrode.. Tragically Jackie passed on this day 2015 but he is survived by his sons Jaxon and Jaiden and wife .. Jackie was one of our very first instructors and coaches at Arizona World of Baseball.. At one of our first instructional camps, Jackie jumped at the chance to coach all the previously cut players and was eager to work with each of these kids.. Jackie was always full of positivity and always shared it with others.. Jackie played in the 2001 Arizona Fall League and led the league in hitting and in stolen bases.. No matter where he went all he knew was how to hit .300.. last year got to go to a World Series game with Jackie’s brother and their sons and .. In 2017 we made a special limited run of Jackie Rexrode Bats from Louisville Slugger... Now in 2020, we are happy to announce that we will be making REX bats from ash rock maple and locust.. Check back soon for more details..

Last week due to COVID-19 Pat Tillman Foundation (Official) decided to make Pats Run a Virtual Run. We have always supported in the past the efforts of the Pat Tillman Foundation (Official) having been part of the event every year. So this year we sent out our elite team (on IG) to covered the original race route and ended as close as possible to the finish line as they could. After that they covered the canals that the virtual run took place at this year. When they were out they saw so many other out there running for the best cause that’s there is.

Be sure to Be sure to check out our band of brothers Junior Spivey Darnell McDonald Chico Rodriguez and more players and coaches.. 🇺🇸 #42

On our 10th year anniversary, we were one of the first vendors with a booth in attendance for the first annual Pat Tillman Foundation (Official). Pat’s Run.. Now ten years later as unfortunate circumstances have led them to change the format of their event to the virtual run we be supporting them again!

We have many different ties to Pat but the one we would like to share today are the Hardtkes.. Terry and his son Brad J. Hardtke owners of Hardtke World of Baseball who has been friends with the Tillman family for a long time.. Terry coached Pat and his brother Kevin Tillman in baseball and football at Leland High School in San Jose, California.. Kevin went on to play baseball at Arizona State University and for the Cleveland Indians in the Minor League Baseball.. BJ who grew up with Pat and Kevin played independent Nothern League, then scouted for the Oakland Athletics.. BJ was also one of our General Managers.. He is pictured at a childhood friends wedding with Pat.. and another with his wife Rene and Kevin Tillman.. We used to be an Hardtke World of Baseball before our evolution into Arizona World of Baseball, this would never would have been possible without Terry and BJ and these NorCal roots, which always have been a home base for the Tillmans and other families!

With a wide variety of styles these #42 hats serve to commemorate Tillman’s legacy.. with a portion of all proceeds going to .. we are excited and humble for this opportunity!

We have had some pretty incredible catchers as part of our baseball family in the last 20 years.. Both Arizona World of Baseball player of the year winners James Tuffy Gosewisch and Matt Pagnozzi have both played in the big leagues following the dream they saw from the generations prior in Tuffy’s Dad and our GM Goose Gosewisch and Matt’s Uncle Tom Pagnozzi, who played for the St. Louis Cardinals and won 3 gold gloves.. But our list of catchers includes so many more: Matt Malkin, Colby Hamilton, Sam Huff, Shaun Deisler, Chip Gosewsich, Matthew Lamb, Clifford Guerrero, Mike Kenny, Hunter Parks, Matty Rodrigez, Connor Woods, Brett Whiteside, Cripps Bobby, Alex Sorenson, Nathan Kolasa, Gehrig Sanchez , Billy Clemens, Jason Turner, Lance Warren, Pete Paramore, Jake Meyers, Mark Ossansa, Marty Dunlap, Kingston Spivey, Los Angeles Angels bullpen coach Jason Brown, Marty Rover, Tommy Joseph, Mathew Lamb, Joseph Mautstu, Tyler Newman, Andrew Pollak, Carlos Criollo, Jon Poterson, Max LaRue, and more.. coach Ron Davini worked with some of the names above but also worked with one of our best who is truly in a league of her own.. Megan Willis not only trained here but also attended Corona Del Sol High School were she began she domination of game of softball.. went on to play and cos coached at Texas Softball.. During her UT playing career, Willis was a four-year starter behind the plate and twice earned Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year accolades (2006-07) posting school records for fielding percentage (.994) and putouts (2028) and gunned down 59 would-be base stealers in her career.. catcher for softball great Cat Osterman .. played and managed in the USSSA-Fastpitch Softball league.. and helped inspire an new generation of players.. Mastering Pitch Location With Pedro Martinez

What kind of pitcher are you? Are you a power arm who likes to attack hitters, or are you a softer, strike thrower who relies on weak contact off the bat? Regardless of which type you are, to be successful, you need to have conviction in your pitches and learn how to master pitch location.

In this clip, Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez explains how he made the jump from a young pitcher with a powerful, yet wild arsenal, to one of the games best pitcher who had conviction on every single pitch, and understood how to pitch within himself. He mentions in the video, that once he learned how to locate his two seam fastball consistently, he took that next step to becoming one of the games best pitchers to date.

Do you agree with what Pedro says about learning how to master pitch location? What is something you have done on the mound to help you achieve this? Let us know!

Please, like and share this post!

MLB Tonight: The drills that make J.D. Martinez elite

Are you an elite hitter? Do you want to be? What kind of drills do you do to make yourself a better hitter?

There are various methods of training your swing that you can do every single day. Most methods in fact don't even need a hitting facility to practice.

In this video clip below, the Baseball Tonight crew takes us through one of the few drills AL MVP candidate JD Martinez does every single day in batting practice.

In this particular drill, it focuses on not arm barring during his swing, as well as staying fully connected throughout contact with the baseball.

Do you agree with this drill? Let us know your thoughts, drop a comment below! Please like and share this video!

Donaldson Explains His Swing in Studio 42

In order to be a complete hitter, you have to understand your body works together when you swing and most importantly how to hit the baseball from your batting stance. Since hitting is from the ground up, it is very important to get an understanding of your balance, load, and hip rotation. This understanding is vital to becoming a good consistent hitter. Not everyone has the same stance, in fact most people differ, however one thing that remains the same is how the body works together once the swing is started.

In this clip below, All Star third baseman Josh Donaldson takes us through what makes his swing so unique. He explains how his swing may differ from others, but breaks down why it works for him.

Do you agree with the things he is saying about his swing? Let us know your thoughts!

Hello WOB'ers! With summer vacation just about over, I wanted to give everyone a friendly reminder that starting next week we will be back to our normal hours of operation (3pm-9pm). Just because summer is over, doesn't mean baseball has to stop! We hope to see everyone in here soon!

07/16/2018

What are you doing today, that is going to make you better tomorrow?

If you don't put your all in this sport, you will never be able to reach that next level you want to get you. Baseball players should never be satisifed with "good enough" because there is always another gear that we can get to if we push ourselves to the limit.

All Star Third baseman Kris Bryant was asked about his advice to any baseball player trying to make it, he said

"No matter what you have achieved or accomplished, keep pushing to get better. Don't let "good enough" be GOOD ENOUGH"

07/11/2018

Baseball is without a doubt one of the hardest sports. Hitting a round ball with a round bat is no easy thing to do. It is important to remember that every game/at bat/play will not go your way, and how you handle that failure plays a significant role in determining your future success in this sport.

We like to reference this excellent quote from New York Mets third baseman David Wright about mental toughness..

"Whether you have a great game or a terrible game, tomorrow's another day and you've got to come out here and compete"

In this game, mental toughness is just as important as a good skill set and work ethic!

Arizona World of Baseball would like to congratulate shortstop Josh Bristyan of the Paradise Valley Community College Baseball team on his accomplishments this year on the baseball field!

Josh was the recipient of two major awards in the NJCAA this past spring season. He won the Rawlings Gold Glove award (best fielding percentage) by any NJCAA Division 2 shortstop for the second year in a row! As well as being named a 2018 Division 2 Junior College All American! He also became PVCC’s career leader in hits after his 2018 season with 139 hits in 2 years!

Josh is a frequent at World of Baseball and has been upon graduating from Horizon High School in 2016. Josh works out at azWOB with hitting coaches Pat Kelleher and Steve Murray! With guidance from our coaches and dedication on his behalf, Josh became one of best two way players at the Junior College level!

Since he walked into our doors, we have seen him take tremendous strides as a baseball player, and we are excited to follow him on his next step at the Divison 1 level at Gonzaga University. We fully expect Josh to continue his dominance on the field and compete for a starting job next spring in Spokane!

07/03/2018

Here is another video from one of our stations that works on having a very good first step and not letting the tennis ball bounce more than twice on ground! Gaining speed after you take off is key to being a great base runner!

06/26/2018

Every morning at camp we have stations that helps work on our agility. It is important that we become very athletic and mobile athletes in order for us to be successful at this game. Whether that’s for quick footwork to get us to first base, a good first step to help us track down that deep fly ball, or being able to move quickly to our side to range for that ground ball. All the skills we are teaching are tools that they will need for the next level of baseball! We love doing this first thing in the morning to wake everyone up, and get the blood pumping! We had excellent, hard work by these kiddos today!

06/22/2018

Another successful week of summer kids camp in the books! Thank you to our wonderful campers on such a good week!

"This was one of the most skilled group of kids we have ever had" - Coach Alex Friedl

Not only did we have some serious ball players this week, we also had a ton of fun! Please come back and see us again sometime soon!
