Host Family for Exchange Student/Running Enthusiast Sought
Ayusa Global Youth Exchange is seeking 1 family in Maricopa County that enjoys learning about the world around them, is loving and adventurous, and would love to make a dream come true for a foreign teenage exchange student. Ayusa has about 24 students are runners and is looking for a family interested in running.
For example, one such student is Caue from Brazil. Caue is family-oriented, likes to travel, runs 5Ks and 10Ks, eats lunch with his grandmother weekly, plays guitar, enjoys stand-up comedy and telling jokes. A volunteer host family is single or married, with or without children. They welcome a student into their home like a new son or daughter. They provide 3 meals a day, a bedroom (can be shared with same gender +/- 5 years) transportation to the local high school and lots of TLC!
Students speak English, have their own spending money and are insured. They have varied interests such as art, sports, fitness, etc. There is a student for every family out there with similar interests.

The Melanoma Education Foundation, provides no-cost skin cancer lessons on early self-detection of melanoma to high schools and middle schools throughout the U.S. Over 1700 schools in 49 states were using the lessons at last count. Lives of students and teachers have been saved because of the lessons.
As a partner charity of the New York Road Runners Association, the Melanoma Education Foundation has been approved to enlist 10 runners for the 2017 New York City Marathon.

Survey/Study for Runners Currently Training or Just Starting...
A student assistant at Texas A&M University Kingsville is helping his professor conduct a study on runners of any experience level as they train for a run of any distance - 1 mile all the way up to an ultra. Runners need to be within the first 25% of their training program for their intended event, over the age of 18 and provide a valid email address.
The study is a series of four surveys: 1) at the beginning of training, 2) half-way through training, 3) at three-fourths through training and 4) finally post-event. Each survey should take about 5 minutes to complete.

Office Olympic Games: How to Host the Olympic Games IN Your Office
The Office Olympic Games are basically games you can play where you work using materials typically found in the office as the sports equipment, such as rubber bands for Archery or business cards for Sailing. Runners in the Office Olympic Games will actually use their fingers to do the running – which makes for some rather interesting hurdles and steeplechase competitions.

Congratulations to all who participated in and finished the Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona half or full marathon on Sunday! It was quite different for Running Arizona this year, as this was the first time in the history of Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona that we did not have coaches on the course – though we did have one past coach who ran quite well in the half marathon.
Please feel free to share your memories from yesterday right here. We look forward to hearing from you and to helping you train for any future running events.
Love running? Love dogs? Why not combine two passions into one and run with a shelter dog? Lost Our Home Pet Rescue has several adoptable dogs that would LOVE to get out of the shelter and onto the sidewalks, streets, trails, wherever to stretch their legs and get out into the fresh air! Volunteers will need to go through a brief orientation that includes basic dog handling training as well as be comfortable around active dogs of all breeds and sizes.

Although we are not holding group workouts this year, we do still want you to have the chance to answer our traditional “Sign-In Sheet Questions,” a favorite being “How many 100-degree days are left this year.” Just reply with your name and your guess to the number of days left in 2015 in which the temperature will reach triple digits. The person closest to the actual number of 100-degree days will win a Running Arizona running T-shirt.

If you are thinking about running the half or full marathon for Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona 2016, then we are now less than two months away from the start of training. However, that training with Running Arizona will be much different than in years past.
For the past 12 years, Running Arizona has provided weekly long effort group workouts on the weekends and track workouts on Wednesday evenings. Going forward we will no longer host group workouts but do plan to assist anyone training for a race - whether a marathon, half marathon, 5K or other distance.
During the past dozen years it has been an incredible honor to have been part of the many miles you have logged in training and on race day. It has been a pleasure to have run and walked with so many wonderful people. I and the coaches (Jon, Sandra and Hoyt) who have helped along the way are truly honored to have had the opportunity to be part of your marathons and half marathons. So, to the nearly 1,000 runners we have personally trained to complete a half or full marathon over the past 12 years, to the special runners who oversaw workouts for us when needed, and to the many bakers and chefs amongst you who filled our empty bellies, we want to extend a very heartfelt THANK YOU!
I would also like to add a special personal thank you to Coach Jon who did far more than just keep the workouts going for the past three years. He definitely lived up to his Superman tattoo.
