Purpose:
Participation in competition is an essential supplement for our players to thrive. While it is important to master fundamental skills taught during the regular training classes, our competition series allows players to gain knowledge of the rules of basketball, practice their timing, gain awareness of the court, and participate in a true scrimmage experience, which is the soul of basketball. Don’t do basketball without it, you (and your child) will love it!

To: Students who attend the San Gabriel Academy (SGA) Sunday Afternoon Classes.

Subject: The SGA Class of May 5th will be cancelled. (One weekend Only)

1. We will not have a class on Next Sunday (May 5th only) as the San Gabriel Academy Gym will not be available to our program due to school volleyball tournament that will run all day.
2. You are welcome to go to class at our Temple City location on Saturday morning or if you wish you can also get a credit for the Sunday class on May 5th.
3. April 28 at San Gabriel well still operate as usual.

“Play Smarter” Summer League

Hello Parents, from Coach Marquis and our “Play Smarter” Basketball Staff

I wanted to explain how we will conduct and play our summer league competition and training development program. We will be starting on Tuesday, June 11 at: 6:30 and 7:30 PM for our upper levels, 12 years and older. This is our A divisions.

For our younger kids ages 9 to 12 years old, our B Division will begin on Thursday evenings, starting from June 13 at: 6:30 PM and 7:30 PM games each week, (As usual Game shirts will be provided).

Our summer league games and training has been designed totally for our own “Play Smarter” class students to maximize our kid’s development. However, we are inviting a couple of teams from San Gabriel Academy School to participate.

Here are some of the differences;

Coach Marquis will be on the floor working with both the referee and your child’s bench coach to insure that our students can and will receive a lot more attention and guidance to help accelerate their personal understanding of how they should play on both offense and defense throughout the games.
The games will be run using (4) 8 min. quarters and referee scoreboard will be provided.
We also want to teach our students responsibility so, if your child forgets or has no team shirt, they will not be allowed to play in the games or they can purchase a second shirt at: SGA in order to play and the cost will be $12.00.
The last two teams to play must help clean and put all of our parent’s chairs away and this will be rotated from week to week.
Parents, please remember this program is totally built around your child’s development, not winning or losing, so please be encouraging and positive.
In the beginning, we will interrupting the game to teach the students, but as the students grow in their knowledge as the competition progress, we will be able to let the games continue without interruption.
MAN and ZONE defenses will be taught and played throughout the games.
First half ZONE defense and the second half will be MAN to MAN defense only.
8. Fresh clean cold water and cups for each game played for our kids will be provided plus we will have a medical kit at all games.

Hello again parents of our Play Smarter Classes,
This is a notice to all parents; As some of you have notice, our two classes have become too crowed because of the unexpected close of our Alhambra Emmaus Class due to construction of replacing and installing the new gym floor and renovation as well. We have now learned that it may be longer then we were precisely thought. Maybe, another month or even longer. So we are adding a new Sunday morning class from 10 AM – 12:00 Noon at: San Gabriel Academy. We believe this new morning class will lead to fewer kids in each of our other classes.
Also, as usual our students can move between all of our classes instead of canceling their regular class day or time.
