Receiving the ball at first base is about timing and positioning. First, make sure you provide a clear target for your infielders. Place the back part of your foot on the base, but here is the key: Don’t extend your stride until you see the ball is coming toward you. Stretching too early limits your range if the throw is offline!

The “Stationary Chest Pass” is a fantastic drill to build control and arm strength in young players. 🏀

Have your players spread out and perform the chest pass straight up into the air above them. The challenge? Increase the height with every single pass. If a player has to move their feet to catch it, they’re out! It’s a great way to turn a fundamental mechanic into a fun, competitive game. Marty Schupak

The infield flip can’t float.

If the ball goes up… the runner is safe.

Teach your shortstop two things:
1️⃣ Keep the flip LOW and quick
2️⃣ Step toward your target before releasing

Momentum matters. Direction matters. Angle matters.

Clean mechanics turn double plays.

Save this for your next practice.

The “Three Base Sliding Drill” gives kids a safe, fun way to master the slide. 🏃‍♂️💨

By taking off their shoes and practicing in the grass with loose bases, players can build confidence without the fear of getting stuck or scraped. It’s an excellent exercise to help them learn the “how” and the “when”—ensuring they hit the dirt at the perfect moment, not too soon and not too late!

The “Prep, Step & Hop” is the foundational rhythm every youth player needs to master. In just 60 seconds, Nate breaks down the footwork that eliminates hesitation and creates a smooth transition to the throw.

The 3-Step Rhythm: 1️⃣ PREP: Creep step as the pitcher delivers. 2️⃣ STEP: Work toward the ball (don’t wait for it!). 3️⃣ HOP: The “power hop” to align your feet for the strike to first base.

Master this, and you master the infield.
