Postpartum Psychosis is both scary and serious! But help is available!!!
PSA for Baton Rouge β€οΈβπ©Ήβ€οΈβπ©Ήβ€οΈβπ©Ή
There is a lot of misinformation being posted and shared right now given a local news story. Your strong reactions are a normal response, too. Unfortunately a postpartum experience often has to escalate to tragedy to get media attention.
Postpartum Psychosis is a serious medical emergency. However, most people who do experience PP do not harm themselves or anyone else. There is a risk of danger when psychosis includes delusional thinking and irrational judgement. Do NOT turn avoid a mama who is having a hard time.
It can be overwhelming as a spouse, a support person, or a family member, when a new mother is in crisis. BUT HELP IS AVAILABLE!!!
Call or text the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline at 833-852-6262. Available 24/7 to speak to a counselor trained in maternal mental health to help advise on next steps.

I had the pleasure of participating as a sponsor for EPIC Outreach & Revive Counseling and Consulting 5th Annual Brunch on the Bayou, supporting Maternal Mental Health Month alongside 2 of my favorite Perinatal Mental Health partners: My good friend and mentor Courtney Malveaux, LPC-S, PMH-C owner of The Balanced Mama Counseling Services and my cousin Valessa Jackson, owner of EnJoy Birthing Services LLC.
Courtney delivered an amazing presentation on Diagnostic Considerations in Perinatal Mental Health, while Valessa and I gained valuable insights to enhance our services.
These two motivate me so much and I can't thank them enough for what they continue to pour into the work I do with this population.
As a bonus I also had the privilege to help represent Baton Rouge Perinatal Counseling, LLC another event sponsor. I had the honor of joining this collective a year ago and they have contributed a great deal to my growth in serving this population β€οΈ
