The Eagle has landed!!!

Huge congrats to Jimmy on an incredible Red Hartebeest taken on his recent South African Safari!

This one's a trophy in every sense — the Red Hartebeest is often called one of Africa's "ugly-beautiful" species, and once you see one up close you get it. That long, narrow face, the oddly angled horns curving up and then hooking back, the high-shouldered, sloped build — it's an animal that looks like it was assembled from spare parts, and somehow it works. God's creation on this one is magnificent. Hunters and photographers alike love them precisely because they don't fit the classic "majestic" mold — they've got character instead.

Don't let the awkward silhouette fool you, though. Hartebeest are built for speed and stamina, capable of sustaining a fast pace over long distances better than almost any other plains game, which makes a clean, well-earned shot like this one all the more impressive. They're also famously wary and quick to spook, so putting one down takes real skill and patience.

Well done, Jimmy — a fantastic representative of one of Africa's most distinctive and underrated species. Here's to the next adventure!
