“Just keep making one after the next…”

often time as an athlete, you become focused on the attempts that you want to make. That could become a distracting habit, especially when you have multiple attempts before you get there. Often times focusing on the outcome leads you to overlook the process. It takes you to get there.

Every attempt will take you towards your next attempt. Be focused, be present, and perform the process you practice in training, so that way you can achieve the objective.

As a Master, the unfortunate reality of age is that you can’t go as intense you your younger self. However, wisdom and experience dictate that being adaptable is equally as productive.

Making progress isn’t limited to your youth- plenty of masters weightlifters have achieved their lifetime bests at later ages. You can too.

With appropriate coaching and planning, a master lifter can train effectively and stay injury free. Our masters team is a showcase of that.

It’s a bad week to be 120 kg. The boys have been putting a spit shine on their sn**ch and looking pretty darn good.

The only way to progress in weightlifting is by being uncomfortable- physically and mentally.

Pushing past the threshold of physical discomfort demands your body to change to its stressors. But the physical work is the easier part.

The more advanced and experienced you become the more mental it will be. That’s where you have to dig deeper. The hardest part is the discomfort of facing yourself. Weights will expose your flaws and weaknesses- a difficult truth for most.

If you’re willing to suffer, you will find success. Learning to endure discomfort is a priceless skill set that will unlock more than just big lifts.

Push press is THE best upper body exercise. Hands down. No other exercise will develop your upper body strength like it. Push press does for your upper body what squats do for your lower body.

Push presses do the following for your weightlifting :

-Develops your dip/drive for the jerk
-Overloads upper body pressing power
-Works overhead stability
-Teaches timing of force between lower and upper body
-Volume gets your upper body thick and supreme
-Improves flexibility

so if you need more upper body development or are having trouble with the jerk, you should check your push press, frequency and strength. They will develop your upper body to improve your jerk and consequently your sn**ch will also go up.

How often are you push pressing?

Create a process for yourself. We are creatures of habit and weightlifting proves especially susceptible to habits breeding results.

Make your training routine the same; make a ritual to follow in the weight-room. By doing this you cut out variables that can distract you. As well, your routine creates the confidence of familiarity. Watch every top weightlifting and they all approach the bar with the same idiosyncrasies.

This approach and organized training eliminates randomness. This is where success and progress reside.

Weightlifting is the sport for all sports. Paulo Henrique Familiabangujj is a high-level BJJ competitor and an incredible coach Altus Jiu-Jitsu NY.

We’ve done a few sessions together already and his athleticism stands out immediately. Over time his flexibility will improve and these positions will look dramatically different. It’s anticipated that he can make some huge clean numbers in a year’s time.

Weightlifting is a tool for every athlete of any sport to use and improve their strength and performance. It simply works.

It’s not always a bad thing being a white belt again 🤣🤣🤣

Technique IS weightlifting. Technical development is a long-term process of specificity. Every lifter spends countless hours working to learn optimal technique; learn how it feels, and replicate it session after session.

The importance lies in that it allows the best use of your mechanics to maximize your strength output.

If you want to optimize your weightlifting, it’s a must to be coached and develop yourself to great technique. The hardest part of weightlifting is channeling your mental energy to make technical changes. But that’s where true progress comes from.

Weightlifters are not unfamiliar with little nagging, muscle pains, tendinitis, and injuries. And with such, the stubbornness of most athletes to continue their training in pursuit for progress keeps them pushing when perhaps they shouldn’t be looking to perform as hard.

But that’s not to say that you still can’t train. Modify accordingly to be able to perform and work on the aspects of lifting that can help you when you are fully recovered and 100%. Build weaknesses and revise technique. Often times these setbacks lead to greater progress that you may have had been without them.
