Defender - BattleBot

The H.A.N.D. project has been temping me for around a year now! I’m glad to finally share some of the most recent renderings!

This project was a perfect way of retiring some old battle damaged parts and outdated brushed components. It’s challenging to go three minutes with a control robot against a spinner repeatedly. It’s certainly not sustainable with the same old frame.

We’re thankful that robotic art expos such as Open Sauce and Robogames give these opportunities to branch out from what’s reasonable in a combat arena! We’ve been learning a lot with this project.

We were happy to leave with a fully functional robot and a 2nd place trophy for our static art bot!

Introducing King Crab! These are the most up to date renderings for RoboGames 2023!

Unfortunately we just heard that flamethrowers will not be allowed this time around, but we added the effect to the renderings anyway. We hope we get to fight with it soon, it’s really dialed in thanks to Calvin Iba!

What a wild first season for Defender! Of course we would have liked to go further, but we are very happy with how well we did this first time out.

Defender was built to be unique and to give Jason the opportunity to fight in the BattleBox. It did that and more, making it into the top 34 out of a field of 63 bots!

This may or may not be the end of our BattleBots journey this season, so stay tuned!

We did it! We won our first fight this season and we're really happy how it all played out.

After the first few exchanges, our grab arm broke and we were unable to self right if we needed to. For that reason we did not use the lifter much.

Luckily we were able to use the box to our advantage and control the fight. We also saved Riptide when they were stuck on their side. Leaving them stuck that early on would not have made for a very good fight, I think it was for the best!
