I spoke with someone from Calhoun County senior services and I was informed that they do not have a program dedicated to helping our Counties senior citizens with lawncare or snow removal.
I was also informed that Calhoun County Senior Services receives numerous calls from people "begging" for help with these services. Many of our Seniors are on a fixed income and can't always afford these services out of pocket, or they are not physically capable of doing it themselves.
They have to rely on others for help.
I have the equipment to help with the lawns and I am working with my contact at Senior Services, but snow is not far off. I'm asking for help to get my truck set up for snow plowing and salting. I have a plow but it needs a wiring harness, controller, and to be mounted on the truck. I have already spent 1000 dollars of my own money to make this happen.
My goal is to reach 4500 dollars. That will cover getting the plow mounted, the wiring harness, controller, and a salt spreader.
My goal is to provide no cost snow removal for our Seniors, but I can't do this alone. EVERY dollar will go towards getting the truck ready for snow.
I'm trying to give back to the community that I grew up in, please help if you can.
And as an incentive, I will offer free plowing this winter for the two top contributors in Calhoun County!!

Help me help others in my community. Please consider donating to my cause.
I already have the equipment for the lawn care but looking ahead to winter, I'm trying to outfit my truck with a snowplow and salt spreader.
I have a plow but need to have it mounted and purchase a controller and wiring harness for it. I would also like to purchase a salt spreader. My goal is to provide no cost lawncare and snow removal for our elderly and low-income families.

✂️ Why We Don’t Cut Grass Super Short

Many people think cutting grass shorter means mowing less often.

During excessive heat, the opposite is true.

Longer grass:
✔ Shades the soil
✔ Keeps roots cooler
✔ Holds moisture longer
✔ Helps crowd out weeds

That’s why we avoid scalping lawns during hot weather it’s one of the best ways to protect your investment.

When temperatures climb into the upper 80s and 90s, your lawn shifts into survival mode.

Instead of trying to grow, it focuses on conserving moisture and protecting its roots.

You can help by:
💧 Watering deeply 1–2 times per week (rather than a little every day)
🌱 Keeping your mowing height taller
🚶 Limiting heavy foot traffic
🍂 Leaving grass clippings to return nutrients and help retain moisture

A little patience now can lead to a healthier lawn when cooler weather returns.

👣 Give Your Lawn a Break

Did you know walking across drought-stressed grass can cause lasting damage?

If your lawn is looking gray, bluish, or doesn’t spring back after you walk on it, it’s under stress.

Try to:
• Avoid parking on the grass.
• Move kids’ play equipment occasionally.
• Change mowing patterns to reduce repeated tire tracks.

Small changes can help your lawn recover more quickly.

Your lawn may slow down during extreme heat but weeds don’t.

Keeping your property maintained means:
✔ W**d control
✔ Clean edges
✔ Parking lot cleanup
✔ Shrub trimming
✔ Professional curb appeal

A maintained property tells customers you care before they ever walk through the door.

💧 Water Smarter, Not Longer

If you’re watering your lawn:

✅ Water early in the morning (before 9 a.m.)
✅ Aim for about 1 inch of water per week, including rainfall.
✅ Water deeply so roots grow down instead of staying near the surface.

Avoid watering during the hottest part of the day, when much of the water evaporates before it reaches the roots.

Extreme heat is tough on every lawn.

The goal during a heat wave isn’t to have the greenest yard on the block—it’s to help your lawn stay healthy enough to recover.

A few weeks of stress now doesn’t mean your lawn won’t bounce back this fall with the right care.
