🔥 Meet Your August Judge — Tricia Thompson!
We are thrilled to welcome Tricia Thompson as our August show judge! Tricia is a founding member of OHSA, joining us all the way back in 2012 and supporting our mission every step of the way.

As an OHSA Level 3 Judge with specialties in Western, Hunt Seat, In Hand, and Driving, she brings a sharp eye, a kind approach, and years of experience to every class she judges.

Tricia also shares a heartfelt connection with OHSA through her mini mare, Whinny For Me Firefly. Firefly was one of our most decorated minis, and her legacy lives on through the Firefly Award, proudly earned by many minis over the years.

We’re excited to have Tricia judging this month — it’s going to be a great show!

🌟 OHSA World Show Class Champion Spotlight: Sabine Lazo & Heza Hugable Jet (“Watson”) - Freestyle Showmanship; Shankless Showmanship; & Unbridled Pleasure

Some horses change your show career. A rare few change your life. For Sabine Lazo, Heza Hugable Jet — lovingly known as Watson — has done both.

At 12 years old, Watson is a long way from the scraggly, skittish “project horse” Sabine bought fresh out of high school. In their six years together, he’s earned over 50 world titles across APHA, PtHA, and OHSA, been inducted into the OHSA Hall of Fame, and won more in prize money than Sabine ever spent on him. But the accolades are just the surface.

Watson is the most honest, intuitive, and people‑reading horse Sabine has ever known — a partner who seems to understand his rider’s heart as well as her cues. He has a gift for bringing out the best in whoever sits in his saddle.

This year’s OHSA World Show wasn’t her most decorated on paper — but it may be her most meaningful.

In February, Sabine suffered a devastating accident, breaking her back and requiring emergency surgery. She spent weeks in the hospital and rehab before she could even get out of bed on her own. Her surgeon warned her to expect six months before she’d ride again.

But Sabine had Watson.

With a trust she wouldn’t place in any other horse, she climbed back into the saddle — at a careful, slow walk — just six weeks later. Even then, she wasn’t sure she could handle the strain of showing, even virtually. Practice outside of a walk was limited to short bursts, and they were undeniably rusty.

Watson didn’t care.
He took care of her.

He carried her through the World Show with the same heart, honesty, and quiet brilliance he’s shown for years. And more than the ribbons or buckles, Sabine is grateful for the memories — for the chance to show again, for the partnership that has shaped her life, and for a horse who is truly one of a kind.

🌟 OHSA World Show Class Champion Spotlight: Kerri Chalberg & Jukebox Jive (“Leroy”) - Challenge Showmanship

Some horses stay with you through every season of life — and for Kerri Chalberg, Jukebox Jive, affectionately known as “Leroy,” has been that once‑in‑a‑lifetime partner.

Kerri got Leroy when he was just 2 years old, and now at 10, he’s grown into the horse who has taught her more than she ever expected. Together, they’ve chased dreams, built trust, and created a bond that has carried them through both triumphs and challenges.

Showmanship has always been one of Kerri’s favorite classes, and it’s the one she’s poured the most training into with Leroy. Their teamwork shines in every pattern — a true reflection of years of dedication.

The last few years brought setbacks, with multiple surgeries keeping Kerri out of the show pen. But Leroy became her motivation — the reason she pushed through rehab, stayed focused, and worked toward getting back to the things she loves. His steady presence and big heart helped her find her way back.

This year, Kerri is simply happy to be showing again, enjoying her horses, and celebrating every moment in the arena. It’s her first year with OHSA, and she’s excited to see where the rest of the season takes them.

Kerri shares her gratitude for her family and trainer, whose support made this comeback possible.

🌟 OHSA World Show Class Champion Spotlight: Madeline Condil & Brassy - Freestyle WJ Western Horsemanship

At just 19 years old, nursing student Madeline Condil carries a lifetime of horsemanship in her heart. Growing up in a family‑run equine facility that rescued and rehabbed horses, she learned early what compassion, patience, and dedication look like. Horses have always been her passion — and that passion shines through in every ride.

For this World Show, Madeline partnered with Brassy, a kind and willing Quarter Horse boarded at Whitney Ridge Stable. Brassy was generously offered for Madeline to use, giving her the opportunity to step into the arena and show the skills she’s worked so hard to develop.

Madeline credits her success to the unwavering support of her trainer, Heidi Smith, whose guidance made this experience possible. Together, they turned a borrowed horse and a big dream into a moment worth celebrating.

🌟 OHSA World Show Class Champion Spotlight: Lisa Tatsch & Mr Flamin Flasher (“Cinch”) - Ranch Reining

Every great partnership has a beginning — and for Lisa Tatsch and Mr Flamin Flasher, affectionately known as “Cinch,” that beginning came with a few battle‑of‑wills moments and a whole lot of learning. In the nearly two years Lisa has owned him, Cinch has pushed her, challenged her, and ultimately made her a stronger, more confident rider.

At 12 years old, Cinch has all the classic gelding personality traits: a little stubborn, a little goofy, and full of heart. It took time for him to feel comfortable enough to let his true personality shine, but once he did, everything changed. Now he’s playful, affectionate, and genuinely loves his job — a horse who enjoys working just as much as he enjoys being loved on.

Last year, Lisa and Cinch were just dipping their toes into the show pen together. This year, they’ve stepped up, entering more shows and growing as a team with every ride. And while Lisa has spent her whole life around horses — even working as an equine vet tech for a decade — this is only her third year competing in Ranch and Stock Horse shows. Cinch has been her partner through that learning curve, helping her build skills, confidence, and trust in the arena.

Their World Show success is a celebration of progress, patience, and partnership — proof that when you stick with the journey, the rewards are worth every step.

🌟 OHSA World Show Class Champion Spotlight: Christine Morshedi & LEC Mi Chinita (“Lola”) - Gaited Pleasure; Gaited Equitation; Freestyle Gaited Equitation; Gaited Equitation Rail; Gaited Country Pleasure; and Gaited Trail.

A few years ago, Benny Arriola spotted a little mare at auction — a purebred Peruvian Paso who had somehow lost her way. He rescued her, giving her a second chance and a new beginning. That mare was LEC Mi Chinita, lovingly known as Lola.

Since then, Christine has been riding Lola and working closely with Jody Childs of Del Dios Peruvians to help her rediscover her gait, build confidence, and let go of her fear of unfamiliar sounds and “scary” things — like mailboxes, rope gates, and all the surprises the trail can offer. Their early attempts at obstacles were… memorable. Lola’s refusals felt like Christine’s failures, and those videos definitely didn’t make it to the show pen.

But trust grows quietly.

Over time, Lola learned to rely on Christine, and Christine learned to listen to Lola. Their proudest ribbon together is a third place in Challenge Trail at the May World Show a couple of years ago — not because it was the highest placing, but because it represented courage, patience, and partnership.

Lola is an introverted sweetheart who works hard to understand what Christine is asking. She’s willing, thoughtful, and tries with her whole heart. And for Christine — who has been riding off and on for most of her 74 years — this mare has become her closest and most enduring equine relationship.

🌟 OHSA World Show Class Champion Spotlight: Jodie Vidok & Housewife (“Sophie”) - Adult WJ Western Horsemanship

Meet Housewife, affectionately known as “Sophie” — a young sweetheart with endless energy, personality, and charm. She’s the kind of mare who lights up every practice session and keeps her rider smiling from start to finish.

For Jodie Vidok, being part of the OHSA community has been a huge source of motivation and joy. Practicing patterns, preparing throughout the year, and having a place to grow with Sophie has made their journey incredibly meaningful. The online format has given them the chance to learn, improve, and stay connected — no matter the season.

Jodie especially appreciates the judge’s score sheets, which offer clear feedback and guidance that help her set new goals and keep moving forward. With Sophie’s enthusiasm and Jodie’s dedication, this team is only getting stronger.

🌟 OHSA World Show Class Champion Spotlight: Ayla Peterson & Killian - In Hand Trail

Some horses don’t follow the path we imagined — and sometimes, that leads to something even more meaningful. For Ayla Peterson, Killian, and his devoted owner Kathy, this World Show win represents years of patience, hope, and a whole lot of heart.

Kathy purchased Killian years ago, hoping he would become her next riding partner. But something wasn’t right. Killian seemed uncomfortable, and after a veterinary evaluation, he was diagnosed with kissing spine. Kathy did everything she could to help him — surgery, rehab, treatments, different trainers, endless trial and error — all in the hope that he could find comfort under saddle.

Even with all the effort and love, the behavioral challenges continued. Together, Kathy and Ayla made the brave and compassionate decision to step away from riding and explore new possibilities on the ground instead.

And that’s where Killian truly shined.

They discovered he is an exceptional in‑hand trail partner — confident, willing, expressive, and full of personality. This World Show win means the world to both of them, marking not just success, but a celebration of finding Killian’s true calling.

Today, Killian lives a plush, joy‑filled life with Kathy by his side. He enjoys hand walks on the trail, dressing up for holidays, practicing obstacle courses, and discovering new ways to connect. Their bond is deep, genuine, and built on choosing what’s best for him every step of the way.

Learning that you can’t ride your horse can be discouraging — but it can also open doors to entirely new ways of partnering, growing, and celebrating who they are.
