Astronaut Baseball summer workouts will be held every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

We will meet in the weight room at 10:00 AM be there at 9:45 and then head to the field afterward for baseball activities.

Please make sure to bring:
• Baseball gear
• Baseball pants
• Cleats
• Water

Be ready to work both in the weight room and on the field. Let’s keep building something special at The A!🦅

BSN COACHING NEWS: ASTRONAUT BASEBALL PROGRAM MAKES MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT, COACH EDWARDS STEPS DOWN, ALUMNI DAEMON WOODRUFF NAMED NEW HEAD COACH

One era ended and another officially began Thursday as Astronaut High School announced longtime head baseball coach JJ Edwards has stepped down after more than two decades with the War Eagles baseball program.

The announcement was made on the school’s page.

Edwards leaves behind a lasting legacy at Astronaut, one built on far more than wins and losses.

His impact on young men reached well beyond the diamond, helping teach lessons in hard work, accountability, teamwork, discipline, character, and War Eagle Pride that will remain long after the final out.

For years, Edwards helped shape the identity of Astronaut baseball and the culture surrounding the program.

Even during the 2026 season, the War Eagles continued to compete in one of Brevard County’s toughest baseball landscapes, finishing the year 11-9.

Now, the next chapter of Astronaut baseball belongs to one of their own.

Astronaut officially announced War Eagle alumnus Daemon Woodruff as the program’s new head baseball coach.

Woodruff, a 2020 Astronaut graduate and former War Eagles baseball player, returns home with a deep understanding of what the program means to the school and community because he lived it himself.

“My journey started right here at Astronaut, where I played all four years for the War Eagles,” Woodruff told BSN. “Those years helped shape me not only as a baseball player, but as a person, and it means a lot to now have the opportunity to give back to a program that gave so much to me.”

After graduating from Astronaut, Woodruff continued his baseball career at Eastern Florida State College, where he played under current Merritt Island head coach Jason Arnold.

From there, Woodruff’s journey continued through Erskine College, Georgia Southwestern University, and eventually Francis Marion University.

At Francis Marion, Woodruff followed pitching coach Tyler Bender and had the opportunity to play under respected head coach Jeff Jefferson, experiences he says helped shape him both on and off the field.

Each stop throughout his collegiate career helped mold Woodruff as both a player and a man, reinforcing values centered around hard work, discipline, accountability, toughness, perseverance, and consistency.

Along with his playing career, Woodruff also became involved with training athletes and working with travel baseball organizations, helping grow his passion for developing young players not only on the field but away from it as well.

All of those experiences ultimately led him back home to Astronaut.

“Coming back to coach at the place that shaped me means everything,” Woodruff told BSN. “To now lead the program I once played for, replacing a coach who helped mold me into the man I am today, is more than an opportunity — it’s an honor.

“This isn’t just where I played baseball, it’s home. My goal is to pour back into these players the same passion, discipline, and pride that was poured into me.”

Woodruff’s message to his players and all of War Eagle Country is simple.

Buy into the process. Work hard every single day. Be the best teammate you can be.

“Success doesn’t happen overnight, but through discipline, toughness, and consistency,” Woodruff said. “We’re going to continue to build a culture that our school and community can be proud of.

“To all of War Eagle Country, thank you for the support. We’re ready to compete, represent our community the right way, and make memories together.”

For Astronaut baseball, Thursday represented both the closing of a memorable chapter and the beginning of another exciting era.

And with one of their own now leading the dugout, there’s already belief that the future of War Eagles baseball remains very bright.
