We are incredibly proud of Taylor Malan and Hailey Oloshove-Burle who both officiated at the USA Wrestling Ohio 16U/Junior Boys Freestyle State Championship today at Ohio Northern. Both of them continue to do everything in their power to keep leveling up during the "off-season." Taylor suffered a broken elbow right after folk style season and has not been able to wrestle, but she didn't let that stop her and has continued to attend practices to learn as well as ref freestyle and Greco in order to continue growing as an athlete. When we talk about commitment – both of these student athletes are the definition!.

Reminder of the Adrian College Duals folkstyle opportunity that is coming up on Saturday, June 6. I need to turn in our roster soon, so please comment below or send me a message if you're going to participate. This is a FREE 1-day event. We will take a school van for those who need transportation. It is open to all Whitmer wrestlers in grades 6-12. I've attached the flier that I sent out in an email earlier this month.

Match details include:
-Three - minute and half periods
-Two and four point near fall.
-Men's College rules for out of bounds
-Each team will need to provide someone to keep score and/or time so I would appreciate a parent or two volunteer. There will be two athletic trainers on site.
-Spectators can attend and admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children. Bring a lawn chair as seating is limited

We will need parents/athletes to confirm the following by Wednesday, May 27:
1. That your child will be attending and the weight they're wrestling
2. Do they need transportation

Message or comment Coach Adams to confirm spot.

This trip was about so much more than wrestling.

Yes, we trained, competed and represented our respective schools and programs... but the biggest wins happened away from the mat.

Over the past few days, these student-athletes experienced things that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. From walking through Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta (the site connected to the first Olympic Games to feature women’s wrestling) to exploring the incredible Georgia Aquarium and spending time together creating memories at the Mall of Georgia, this trip was about growth, connection and perspective.

Sports have a way of opening doors. They teach young people how to lead, how to adapt, how to support one another and how to experience the world beyond their hometowns. Wrestling gave these athletes an opportunity to travel, learn, laugh, build friendships and see firsthand how far the sport can take them.

The lessons learned on trips like this go far beyond wins and losses. They build confidence. Independence. Appreciation. Belief.

That’s what this was really about.

Every day on the mat is another opportunity to improve.

There will be victories, and there will be lessons. The scoreboard may show wins and losses, but true success is measured by how a student-athlete responds to adversity, handles challenges, and keeps showing up when things get hard.

Growth happens in the moments nobody sees. Keep working. Keep learning. We are so proud of you all!

A huge thank you to Atlas Bridal Shop for supporting our athletes and helping make it possible for our team to attend the Southeast Regional.

It’s support from local businesses like Atlas Bridal that gives student-athletes opportunities to pursue their goals, compete at the highest level, and create memories and experiences that will last a lifetime.

We are incredibly grateful for your generosity, belief in our athletes and investment in the future of these young women. Thank you for being part of the journey. ❤️🤼‍♀️

Tiffin Women's Head Coach Chandler Minnard had some really great technique on Monday, but more important -- he stressed the importance of athletes knowing their "why." It was a great practice & even better discussion. Tiffin week continues on Wednesday with Assistant Coach Sugey Ceja joining us! Coach Su was a 3-time All-American while wrestling at Tiffin -- including a 2 runner-up finishes & a 3rd place. She coached National Champion Stefana Jelacic as an assistant at Lourdes University. Open to girls & boys, we hope to see! If you see a good photo -- shout out to mom_onthe_mat!
