There are moments as a coach that stay with you forever.
This is one of them.
In February of 2021, Shara walked through the doors of CrossFit Igneous shortly after having a baby. I remember immediately noticing something different about her. You could see the drive in her right away. She was motivated, hungry to learn, and determined to see what her body and mind were capable of.
What made her special wasn’t just natural ability. It was the way she approached the process. She listened. She trusted coaching. She stayed patient. She showed up consistently and attacked every weakness head on. While still working and being the best mom and wife!
And she learned FAST.
By the following Open, she was already tackling ring muscle ups. Year after year she continued to evolve into a more complete and total athlete. Stronger. More confident. More experienced. But more than anything, a tougher mentally.
No matter the competition, whether it was a local throwdown, comp while traveling or Semifinals, she gave everything she had every single time she stepped on the floor. There’s something special about athletes who don’t know how to quit, and Shara is one of those people.
This year in Birmingham at Magic City Semifinals, we were unbelievably close to punching our ticket to the CrossFit Games. It was right there in front of us. One moment. One rep. One barbell slipping from her hands during Gwen standing between her and qualifying.
It was heartbreaking.
But what happened next told me everything I already knew about her character.
What I witnessed afterward was one of the greatest responses to adversity I’ve ever seen from an athlete. She went back to work with purpose. No excuses. No pity. Just pure determination.
Then came the online qualifier… and she absolutely crushed it!!!!
What I saw during those workouts was an athlete completely locked in. Someone willing to suffer, willing to fight through every second, and determined to leave no doubt this time around. Workout after workout, she performed like somebody who refused to let the opportunity pass her by again.
And now I can finally say it…
SHARA QUALIFIED FOR THE
Out of thousandssss and thousands of athletes, she fought her way into the 1%.
We’re headed to San Jose, California!!!!
As a coach, it’s hard to put into words how proud I am. Not just because of the accomplishment itself, but because I’ve had the privilege of witnessing the entire journey from the beginning. The sacrifices. The early mornings. The missed sleep. The close calls. The heartbreak. The relentless consistency behind the scenes that nobody else sees. Blood. Sweat. And tears.
You earned every single bit of this.
Your story is proof that hard work pays off. That resilience matters. That believing in yourself through difficult moments matters. You’ve inspired so many people inside this community and far beyond it, whether you realize it or not.
Thank you for showing people in our community what commitment looks like.
Thank you for proving that setbacks don’t define you unless you let them.
I couldn’t be more proud of you as a coach, a friend, and honestly just someone who has had a front row seat to this entire journey.
The work paid off.
CrossFit Games athlete.
