๐New month, new focus! ๐In December, we will focus on the deadlift.๐๐ป
The deadlift is one of CrossFitโs foundational movements ๐๐ปand, quite frankly, one of lifeโs most functional movements. Itโs a fancy name for โpicking things upโ (and here's the important part) ๐๐ผcorrectly. Whether it's ๐, ๐ฒ, or barbells๐๐ผ - this month our Crossfit Kids will be working hard at perfecting the application of the Angry Gorilla Back in order to learn how to lift safely ๐๐ปand correctly ๐๐ปin the gym and in life.
They will be all prepared for that humongous wrapped gift on Christmas morning!๐๐๐ผ๐

New month, new skill! ๐ช๐ป
We just wrapped up our throwing and catching skill ๐ต๐ดand this month will be focusing on the press series. ๐๐ปโโ๏ธWe will focus on creating a stable platform out of the torso and lower body in order to efficiently push something up โ๐ป๏ธoverhead.
We will work with dumbbells and our brand new youth barbells! ๐๐ปThis series increases the requirement for shoulder stabilization as they learn to move an external load. ๐ช๐ป
Our practice last month with wall balls has helped prepare us to explore the shoulder press, push press, and thrusters! ๐๐ป
November is going to be exciting! ๐ฒ๐ซ๐

Last month we focused on pull-ups and learned how to manipulate our bodies through time and space. This month we are going to focus on how to use our bodies to move an object (or stop it from moving) with accuracy!
While throwing and catching are not part of the 9 Foundational Movements we use in Crossfit, they are a very functional skill in the life of a child. This month we will be honing our Wrath Kid's throwing skills in terms of stance, energy transfer, and accuracy, as well as the age appropriate fundamentals of a coordinated catch. (think wall balls and prepping them for an epic game of dodgeball!)

Did you know early sport specialization does more harm than good? We generally think that getting kids started in a single sport early on will give them a competitive edge, but it can lead to burnout and an increased risk of injury.
Crossfit Kids utilizes skills used in a wide variety of sports, as well as in everyday life. Take that heavy backpack your kids lug around every day. They pick it up off the ground (deadlift) and they lift it up overhead to put it in their locker (push press). We want to help teach them proper mechanics they will use every day and establish good movement patterns, as well as promote a lifelong love of fitness.
We start our fall session TOMORROW (Thursday) night at 5pm. Haven't signed up yet? No problem! Email us at [email protected]. We'd love to help put the FUN in FUNctional fitness!!

REMINDER: Tomorrow (Friday Aug 12) is our LAST summer crossfit kids day! Our Wrath Kids will be getting SOAKED! Plan to either wear a bathing suit or bring a change of clothes and bring a towel! If you have a Crossfit Wrath Kids shirt, please wear it tomorrow.
If you decide on a girl's bathing suit, it must be a one piece that is secure for all the movements we do. For our guys, they must wear a shirt with their swimsuit. Please also wear shoes that are comfortable to still run in. Let's get DRENCHED!

Today our Wrath Kids met "Sally" ๐for a little squat therapy! We put our heels on plates and practiced keeping our weight through our heels ๐๐ปand our toes free and off the plate! We also snuck in some clean practice ๐๐ผwith a barbell and closed out with a water relay๐ฆ. Great work Wrath Kids!!!๐ฒ๐๐ผ๐ซ
