I am sharing this info. Ocean county needs to help the homeless
Sharing this information.... Please help if you can...

I got a call three days ago from a woman named Terry who was being released from the hospital, and had no where to go. I told her to hold tight for about two hours and I would be there to pick her up.

When I arrived she was standing by the curb with three small bags in her hand. I jumped out of the van and I went around to her side to help her get in. I introduced myself and asked if she was hungry, she said she was, so I said how about we stop at Mc D’s for a bite before we head to the camp, and she said, sure, that sounds nice, thank you!

As we headed down to the camp she asked if the people were friendly in the camp? I said, yes, very friendly, you will see. She mentioned that she was so surprised that there wasn’t more help for people that were becoming homeless. She said she met another woman in the hospital that was in the same situation, and that she would be calling on Monday.

When I told her that there were only 3 beds for homeless women in all of Ocean and Monmouth Counties, she looked at me with bewildering eyes and said, why is that? I gave her the short version of how the local politicians don’t really care much for Americans that become homeless. I told her there were 15 other women in the camp and some of them were older with some serious health issues and that they had tried and couldn’t find any help either.

When we reached the camp and we walked down the trail that meanders its way through the forest, I introduced Terry to the people we met along the way. As we walked she said, these people are so nice! Some of the men of the camp had already put up her tent and everything was ready for her. When we got to her tent she went inside and said this is very cozy and she said thank you to the men that had fixed it up for her.

Terry is settling in well and offering to help where she can. Since Terry moved in I’ve gotten 3 more calls from people that have no where to go and wondering if they can get set up in the camp. One call was from a man who was staying in a hotel with his daughter, and disabled sister, but they have to be out on Monday, so I told him I would pick them up at 11am from the hotel to bring them to the camp.

This Easter Sunday we are planning a nice Easter dinner with all the trimmings for the people in the camps and also hosting our annual Easter dinner for the poor in the Lakewood Town Square

Thank you for helping to stand in the gap as we help out the poor men and women that have lost their housing. The evidence is there that Ocean County desperately needs a shelter, but as of yet these Americans aren’t on the priority list.

Destiny’s Bridge has always been a 100% volunteer organization with no one receiving a salary, all of your support goes to helping the homeless. Over the last 23 years we have sheltered thousands of the homeless of Ocean County with 24/7 care savings the County millions of dollars.
