🚫 Why Dirty Girl Adventures Can't Kayak the Kansas River TODAY 🚫
If you know us, you know Denise Selbee-Koch and Jennifer love hitting the water for some kayaking fun, but today IS NOT THE DAY! With the Kansas River running at over 23,000 cubic feet per second, it’s just not safe for us to paddle.
Here’s why:
1. **Strong Currents**: The current water levels means the KAW is moving fast, the river basin is FULL, there are NO sandbars for stopping to rest and it will be difficult to control our kayaks and navigate safely.
2. **Obstacles Underwater**: Flooded conditions can hide logs, trees and other hazards.
3. **Safety First**: Our top priority is always the safety of our participants.
So, we're taking a rain check on the kayaking for now! 🌧️ Today's event with Topeka United has a back up date of JULY 25TH, and we hope to see you there! It's OPEN to EVERYONE!
Stay tuned for additional river run dates, and as always, you can sign up to FIND YOUR ADVENTURE on our event calendar at dirtygirladventures.com.
Keep exploring and stay safe! 🛶❤️

We can't kayak today.
Topeka, we have news! Unfortunately, we've had to make the decision to postpone the 2026 Kaw River Adventure, originally slated for June 6th. Our friends at Compass Point home of Dirty Girl Adventures have been monitoring river conditions this week, and recent rain has brought the river flow to a dangerous rate. The Kaw is expected to be at a flow rate Saturday that is about 3x higher than our preferred flow rate. Therefore, it is not safe for us to move forward with the original plan.
The good news? We already have a backup date! The 2026 Kaw River Adventure is rescheduled for Saturday, July 25th. Other event details remain the same. If you registered but are unable to attend on the 25th, please email [email protected].
For any geology nerds in our midst, this image shows some of the monitoring data informing that decision. We hope you'll join us in July!
