We are saddened to have learned, and share the news of the passing of our beloved Cursula.

Cursula was involved in the roller derby community for over a decade. She was a women’s and human rights activist. Her smile and spirit was contagious and brought that energy wherever she went.

Cursula started her derby career skating with the Central Kansas Roller Girls under the name Sarah Lee Breakery, joining the Crushers after moving to Topeka. In the past few years she transitioned away from playing and had become CCC’s head Non Skating Official, working not only during CCC home games but also at other games throughout the region. Sarah had also recently entered the tournament circuit - by being staffed at Contenders Cup.

She will be forever missed. Capital City Crushers mourns the loss of our family member and extended our condolences to everyone whose lives were touched by her.

While the Crushers were never fortunate enough to have General Hellativity officiate one of our games, a few of our officials have worked with him and several of us were lucky enough to play under his watchful eye with Team Kansas Roller Derby at Skate Wars last year. Our hearts go out to his family, friends, and the officials community.

The Black Diamond Rollers join the rest of the derby community in mourning the sudden loss of General Hellativity. We were incredibly fortunate to have him come and officiate many of our bouts over the years. We are grateful for the time, energy, and heart he brought to our track. Our hearts go out to his wife, colleagues, and everyone else in the derby world who had the pleasure of calling him a friend. He will be deeply missed. 🤍

The Capital City Crushers have been made aware of recent allegations involving one of our league members.

The safety and well-being of our community is top priority. As such we have taken steps to remove the individual's participation in all league activities.

As this is an ongoing legal matter, we cannot comment on the specifics of the allegations or speculate the outcome. We will continue to monitor the situation, and take any actions deemed appropriate.

Off to Regionals! 🎉 Please help us congratulate our Head Skating Official, biANic, as they head to WFTDA Regionals. Their dedication, knowledge, and commitment to the sport make us proud every time they put on the stripes. We can't wait to see them shine on one of roller derby's biggest stages—good luck, biANic, and have an amazing weekend!

Skater highlight ✨ #82 TieDie PiXie (She/Her)✨

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐲?
While I was attending my 2nd bout the lady next to me mentioned rec league. I told her I might want to join, but I wasn't really sure. And at half time the announcer asked who wanted to try it, so the lady hollered at the announcer and pointed at me. Next thing I know I'm in the middle of the track signing up for the upcoming newbie training. I got through it, and fell in love with it.

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐲 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲?
I started derby in 2010.

𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐲?
It's empowering when I pull off an effective hit or good block.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐝 & 𝐰𝐡𝐲?
Desserts!! I've always had a huge sweet tooth.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐞?
I don't have a specific routine, I just try to have a good breakfast, enjoy my chai, and make sure I have enough road snacks for my drive.
