Denying God does not explain why anything exists.

If the universe began, it could not have caused its own beginning.

Something cannot exist before it exists.

Eventually, we need a reality that does not receive existence from anything else,

Eternal, uncaused, and self-existent.

That does not mean God created Himself. It means He never began to exist and depends on nothing outside Himself.

“From everlasting to everlasting, You are God.” - Psalm 90:2

The universe is dependent.

God is not.

The cosmological argument does not prove every truth of Christianity, but it points beyond creation to a Creator.

And the conversation should not stop there.

The Creator has revealed Himself in Jesus Christ.

God is not a genie bound to grant your every wish.

He has already shown you more mercy than you deserve.

Titus 3:3–7 reminds us who we were apart from Christ: foolish, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to sinful desires, and alienated from God.

Then come two of the most beautiful words in Scripture:

“But when…”

God’s kindness appeared.

He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but according to His mercy.

That changes the way we look at everything.

The Christian can never rightly say, “God, I deserve better.”

Salvation itself is undeserved.

If God condemned every sinner, He would be just.

If God saves a sinner, He is merciful.

So when life feels unfair, begin here:

God has already shown me immeasurably more mercy than I deserve.

God is training you.

Romans 5:3–5 says, “We also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope.”

The trial may not be what you would have chosen, but God can use what is painful to produce what is precious.

Pressure produces perseverance.

Perseverance produces proven character.

And proven character strengthens hope.

So instead of asking only, “How do I get out of this?” ask a better question:

“How is God using this to make me more like Christ?”

Your comfort is not God’s highest priority.

Your holiness is.

The burden may be heavy, but for the believer, it is never meaningless.

Don’t waste the trial.

One of the greatest gifts you can give your children isn’t comfort. It’s discipline.

My kids don’t always want to exercise. Honestly, neither do I.

But healthy habits are built by doing what’s right, not by waiting until you feel like it.

The discipline to train your body is a small picture of the greater discipline Christ produces in His people.

By His grace, we learn to deny ourselves, obey Him, and do hard things even when our flesh resists.

That’s why I don’t just tell my kids to exercise, I do it with them. I want them to see that discipline isn’t punishment; it’s a way of life.

Making your kids exercise won’t make them hate it. When it’s modeled with consistency and love, it teaches perseverance, self-control, and the ability to do hard things, qualities that will serve them for the rest of their lives.

“If anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either.”
—2 Thessalonians 3:10

Paul wasn’t talking specifically about exercise, but he was confronting idleness. As Christians, we’re called to reject laziness and faithfully do the work God has given us.

The goal isn’t simply to raise fit kids. It’s to raise disciplined men and women who learn, by God’s grace, to obey Christ instead of their feelings.
