I want to take a moment to share a story of RESILIENCE and TRUST, recognize a very special dancer, and share some lessons to learn from her story ❤️

A few weeks before Midwest Regionals, Sophia injured herself during ice skating practice- a painful muscle pull of her hamstring and inner thigh muscles- so much that even walking through dances wasn’t an option at first. After working to build strength and stamina throughout the year, and finally feeling that she was getting there, this was a major setback.
Knowing Sophia and her mental and physical strength, and after evaluating the severity of her injury and the amount of time to heal, I told her, “I think this is going to be ok, and I think you’re going to be fine for Regionals”.
She TRUSTED me and BELIEVED me and in the weeks leading up to Regionals did EVERYTHING I asked:
🌟 Continued to show up for every class and worked on what she COULD do- first upper body, then barre work, then one side only
🌟 Remained mentally strong and believed in her recovery plan and ability to overcome this challenge
🌟 Above all she trusted me (her teacher), her parents, and her doctor and PT

Although she was not at her strongest at Regionals, and had to limit her leaps and not dance extended high cuts, she performed 4 solid dances and placed 🥇🥇🥇🥇 and Regional Champion 🏆

❤️ Sophia is certainly an outstanding dancer and person- she is focused and determined, hard working, and mentally strong. She is selfless, no drama, and an amazing friend to fellow dancers. And as simple as it sounds, as her teacher, she listens to my advice, and does what I ask! (Sounds simple, but ask any teacher, most students don’t do this 💯)

Lessons to take away from her story:
✍️An injury doesn’t have to derail your whole season
✍️Keep working toward your goal in whatever ways you can
✍️Trust in your teacher, parents, and other adults working to help you succeed
✍️Above all, your mental strength and belief in yourself and your abilities is the most important element to success

Sophia, I’m so proud of you, and feel fortunate to teach you! ❤️

❤️ Sometimes the biggest “wins” aren’t the strongest days of dancing or a major title or trophy, but the ability to overcome a challenge and persevere despite all the reasons you could fail. Sophia, I’m so proud of you, and I’m fortunate to teach you! ❤️
