Last minute. Zero notice. Third place.
Signed up for this one with no training block built for it, just showed up and let the work I’d already put in carry me. That’s the whole point of durability training: it’s not about chasing a PR, it’s about being ready when the opportunity shows up unannounced.

This weekend our teammate from Boston Peiwen raced in her first Youth & Junior National Championship in Westchester, Ohio! This was Peiwen’s first season of draft-legal racing, coming to triathlon from synchronized swimming, and only her 3rd DL race! Her first race in Richmond, she crashed 2x on the bike, but got back up and finished the race, which ultimately qualified her for Nats. In Pittsburgh, she figured things out a bit more, but still struggled with some things. With the help of Coach Matt Valyo of TAF Racing in Boston working skills with her she put together an excellent effort in Ohio. I can’t wait to continue to work with her and see her growth next season. Special thanks also to Coaches Noah and Jodie of Lightning Warriors for taking her in this weekend and treating her as one of their own.
It truly takes a village and the Junior tri community always comes together to help these young athletes shine! Amazing job Peiwen! Congrats!

I’m 57. Trying to be a competitive triathlete. Finishing my MBA in a month. And starting a new business.

Am I crazy?

I’m betting that triathletes already know strength training is the key to better performance and longevity in this sport — and that you’d want to be part of a community of athletes and coaches who are already doing something about it.

$29/month. Skool community. Real coaching perspective.

Am I wrong?

If I am — tell me I’m crazy. 👇

6 days. Two races. Half distance to Olympic.

Musselman 70.3 on Sunday. Super Tri New Jersey the following Sunday. Six days between them — enough to take the edge off, not enough to fully recover.

Realistic goal going into race two: don’t walk the run. Legs were still carrying fatigue from the half, and I knew it.

3rd place, M55-59.

What made it possible wasn’t luck — it was a 6-week training block built on consistent strength work, then a genuinely disciplined recovery week between races. No injuries, no breakdown, just steady ex*****on on tired legs.

This is the piece that doesn’t show up in a finish time: the work you do so your body can still show up when a week is all you’ve got.
