We're partnering with UGA to observe nocturnal flying insects using special blacklights. Be sure to stick around for a cozy campfire and s'mores. This event is free to attend. 🐛🔦

Welcome autumn in the most peaceful way possible! Step into the changing season with a Naturalist Evening Walk at Johns Homestead Park to mark the Fall Equinox. In partnership with the South Fork Conservancy, a certified naturalist will lead us through the park at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22, exploring local wildlife, plants, and our local watershed as the weather cools. This walk is free to attend.

Want to learn how to turn food scraps and yard waste into nutrient-rich soil? Come to a free Composting Workshop hosted by local Girl Scout Dhyana Patel on Saturday, September 19 from 2 to 3 p.m. at Tucker Recreation Center.

Dhyana will cover composting basics, what can and cannot be composted, and demonstrate how to build a bin using wood pallets. A select number of attendees will even get to take home pallets and start composting right away!🌱

Welcome to part 2 of Behind the Build! Last spring, Tucker Middle School student, Farryn Kohler spoke with the City Engineer Ken Hilderbrandt to take a deep dive into the Lake Erin Dam project at Henderson Park.

During this interview they discuss the hidden surprises underground, including the heavy excavation needed to remove unsuitable "muck and mud" at the base of the dam to build a secure foundation. They also chat about keeping projects on budget to protect taxpayer's dollars, and how modern EPD safety standards make these new dams far sturdier against heavy storms than the original 1950s structures.
