Kung Fu Styles: 7 Styles Of Shaolin Kung Fu And Other Styles 02/27/2024

This is an interesting read about the 5 animals of Kung Fu and martial arts in general. I have often said that we must learn deploy these styles depending on the circumstances which in the modern world of combat is called mixed martial arts or as my catch wrestling coach Howard Torrejon would call it “applied martial arts” and that would be what he is talking about. Many people I have had the pleasure of training with will gravitate to a favorite animal style and can be seen when watching them fight or train. I believe it to be beneficial to learn how to use each of them and how it might apply to martial arts as a whole.

The Dragon - whipping tail (spinning kicks)
The Tiger - claws (cat claw, knives)
The Leopard - speed/movement (the kickboxer)
The Snake - trap n’ snap (Ed Torrejon)
The Mantis - Tall 8 Limb fighter (fighting for the center, Muay Thai)

Kung Fu Styles: 7 Styles Of Shaolin Kung Fu And Other Styles Kung fu is one of the oldest fighting styles in the world. But there are so many different kung fu styles and each one is known for its unique characteristics.

Find a simple routine and set a goal then break up your goal for the whole day. Or get it done in one workout. Up to you.

Example: Pull Ups. 5 pull ups, 5 times a day. Done. Or if you can do 1 pull up then do that 3 to 5 separate times a day.

Push Ups: sets of 10-20. Do this 5 times a day.

Crunches: sets of 20. Don’t sit all the way up. Do this 5 times a day.

Squats: sets of 25. Do this 5 times a day.

Jump Rope: Jump rope to a song and don’t stop until the song is over even if you trip.

Set an achievable goal and train your mind to win, over and over again.
