Join us in celebrating our February Music Student of the Month, Abby! 🎸
Now a seventh grader, Abby’s been a dedicated student here at the Academy since the second grade, and it’s been incredible to watch her evolution from a beginner to a medal recipient at the recent Tucson Sonatina Festival. She primarily studies classical guitar with Mr. Lich, but she’s a true multi-instrumentalist who also enjoys playing the bass and French horn. 🎺
Abby is just as interested in the history of guitar literature as she is in the technical side of playing. That dedication is fueling her current goal of building an expansive guitar repertoire for her own solo recital in the future.
When she isn't in the practice room or performing pieces like Mertz’s “An Malvina,” she’s channeling that same focus into art and rock climbing. 🧗♀️🎨
We’re so proud of your momentum and hard work, Abby. We can't wait to hear that recital!

We are thrilled to announce that Academy violin student, Sophia, has been named Concertmaster of the Catalina Foothills High School Sinfonia Orchestra! 🎶👏
Sophia, a junior at Catalina Foothills High School, earned this prestigious position through a competitive audition process. Her achievement is a testament to her dedication and years of hard work. Sophia has been studying violin with Mr. Iskandar at Music & Dance Academy for 8 years and has been performing with her school orchestras since 4th grade.

🎻 January Student of the Month: Cora Nathalang! 🎻
We're thrilled to recognize Cora, a 6th grade violinist who has been studying with us for three years! Under the guidance of her teacher Ms. Ann, Cora has blossomed into an expressive musician who loves exploring the variety of emotion in music. 🤩🎶
She's currently challenging herself by working on a Level 4 piece—well beyond her usual pieces from Suzuki Book 2—showing her ambition to grow as a violinist. Her vibrato technique has really taken off recently, adding beautiful expressiveness to every piece she plays.
- Favorite performance: Playing "So This Is Love" at our Halloween Concert
- Current favorite song: "When She Loved Me" by Randy Newman
- Favorite hobby: Horseback riding 🐎
- Favorite color: Dark Green 💚
Ms. Ann praises Cora for having "the best attitude," and we couldn't agree more!
Congratulations, Cora! Your dedication and willingness to embrace challenges inspire us all! 🌟
