Another great tournament at GFA Tucson! ⚔️

Congratulations to all our medalists and competitors, with standout wins from Hayden, Isaac, Ella, and Elisa (who competed in 2 simultaneous events and went undefeated in Y14).

🌟 A huge shoutout to our first-time competitors: Eliyanah, Devon, Augustine, Xander, Augustyne, Harlow, Evan, Henry, Thegn, Villette, and Judith. Welcome to tournament fencing!

👏 And a big THANK YOU to our referees and volunteers—Sam (MVP), Ella, Isaac, Roger, Felix, Leticia, Melissa, and Conner—for keeping everything running smoothly and on schedule.

Thank you to all the athletes, families, and visiting clubs who made it a fantastic day of fencing!

🤺See you at our December event!

ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT: ELLA 🤺🥇& 🥉
Giver athlete:
Before competing on home turf GFA event, Ella was up early working—not on herself, but for others. She supported younger athletes stepping into their first competition, helped with the studio event, and reffed alongside teammates who share that same service minded mentality.
Then it was her turn to fence, She didn’t just win—she dominated the competition🥇

🚘From there, Ella got in the car and made the long drive from Tucson to San Diego, arriving late and getting up early the next morning to compete all over again.

In her first ever Mixed Senior event, she landed in a pool with athletes who would eventually account for three of the top eight finishers. She showed she adapted and stay in the fight.

She then fenced Senior Women event afterward, battling all the way to a 14–15 semifinal and finishing with 🥉 place.
The medal is worth celebrating—but so is everything that happened around it.

Serving other athletes didn’t make Ella weaker. Helping the next generation didn’t take away from her own development. Reffing, showing up early, staying late, competing tired, traveling, adapting, and still stepping onto the strip ready to perform are all part of developing an athlete.

A taker mentality asks: What am I getting? Who is helping me? How does this benefit me?
A giver athlete learns a different kind of strength—the ability to contribute, adapt, serve, lead, struggle, and still perform when everything isn’t perfectly arranged around them.
Because in the end as coach GermanFencingGuy says, It's not just about the medals, It’s about what we learn chasing them.
What a weekend for Ella. 🤺

AIR FORCE ACADEMY ROC/ RJCC RECAP!
Ella and Kenzie made the Cadet Top 16. Ella took on all 4 events and had one of the weekend’s most exciting moments in D1A, eliminating the Cadet champ 12–11, a thrilling tiebreaker!

Coach Jens successfully defended his VetME title from last year and renewed his A rating.

Sam showed great experience and persistence with his reffing, even earning the opportunity to serve as a video referee for the final rounds. Two victories in D1A, and a DE win in D2.
Isaac Top 16 in D2!

Great fencing, growth, thank you to tournament organizers, Air Force Fencing , fellow refs and mentors. Such a well organized and welcoming event 🤺

🤺This is fencing community at its very best ❤️
What a proud moment: Two scholarships for two sisters!

For international fencing families, there is often a home club and another club that becomes a home away from home. Last year, we were fortunate to welcome Itzayana and Valentina to train with us whenever they visited.
What began through fencing grew into friendship, and friendship into trust. When athletes, coaches, teammates, and families truly connect, that trust creates opportunities and opens doors.
Trusted individuals can be recommended, communities can come together, and opportunities can be created.

Congratulations, Itzayana and Valentina! We are incredibly proud of you and know you will go on to do great things.
Go make your mark and Goodluck on the NCAA stage UIW Fencing — we’ll be cheering for both of you! 🤺
