Born from the African Diaspora and carried to Brazil through resilience and resistance, Capoeira represents survival, culture, rhythm, and community. To share that energy in a space rooted in Black excellence and cultural pride meant everything to us.

In 19th-century Brazil, enslaved Africans weren’t just punished for fighting back — they were punished for remembering how. So they disguised their resistance as rhythm. What looked like a dance was actually a fight. What sounded like celebration was rebellion. Capoeira was more than movement, it was memory, survival, and strategy. Even after slavery ended, it was outlawed — seen as too Black, too free, too dangerous. But one man, Mestre Bimba, reframed it. He gave it structure, turned it into something respectable, and brought it straight to the president. Slowly, what was criminal became cultural pride. And when Eddie Gordo landed in Tekken 3, flipping through combos with style and swagger, millions around the world met Capoeira for the first time. But the real story? It didn’t start in an arcade. It started in the dirt, with people who weren’t allowed to fight.
