Join De La Vega Art Gallery and community for the opening reception of RISE: From Adversity to Light, a contemporary art exhibition exploring resilience, transformation, renewal, and the human capacity to rise through challenge into clarity, meaning, and creative force.
Join the artists for an evening of art, conversation, and connection on June 6th from 5–7pm.
RISE invites viewers to reflect on how adversity can become a catalyst for growth, healing, and transformation.
Rather than centering hardship as a final destination, this exhibition approaches adversity as a turning point where reflection deepens into insight, and where creative expression emerges as both response and renewal.

Although I was not able to attend in person due to the birth of my granddaughter, I feel deeply honored to be recognized as an “Arts Hero” by OnMedia, alongside so many inspiring individuals supporting the arts in Tucson. I am also grateful to be included among the 2025/2026 honorees: Theodore Buchholz, Drew Humphrey, Shaun Roby, Amy Byroad, Jonathon Scott Crider, Margaret Mullin, and Beth Maloney. It is truly meaningful to share this recognition with people so committed to strengthening our creative community.
This moment in my life reminded me of what matters most—family, legacy, and community—and it deepens my commitment to the work I do in the arts.
It also invites reflection. While progress has been made, access to art and culture remains limited for many communities—especially for emerging artists and independent spaces working tirelessly for visibility, support, and resources. There is still a need for greater investment in accessible arts programs, more opportunities for new talent, and a stronger collective commitment to cultural growth in our cities.
Through De La Vega Art Gallery, I remain committed to building meaningful community partnerships, supporting inclusive programming, and creating spaces where artists can grow, be seen, and thrive. I also want to acknowledge Karyn, my collaborator and partner in this work, who accepted this recognition on my behalf, as we continue strengthening our shared commitment to the arts and our creative community.
Although I could not be there in person, I was present in spirit and with deep gratitude.
With gratitude,
Mariana de la Vega
