Swim lessons aren't just for fun. πΈ
Sure β there are giggles, games, and choo-choo train rides. But underneath every splash is the real reason we're here: water safety. Every float, every breath, every wall we teach them to reach is a life skill.
In a city full of pools, that matters more than anything. π

June, we loved you. πΈβοΈ A little dump of our favorite moments from the month:
π A 2-year-old who backfloated ALL by herself (we're not crying, you're crying)
π All aboard the lobby choo-choo train between lessons
πΈ Our tiniest swimmers in Little Froggy (Baby & Me)
πͺ Big confidence β independent entries into the water
This is what summer at DeMont looks like. π

Before the summer water season kicks off, we got hands-on with the thing that matters most: keeping our kids safe. πΈπ
We invited parents in for an intro Water Safety & CPR class β and the turnout said it all. Parents, teens, aunts, grandparents β a whole room of caregivers, all there to learn.
Together with our friends at , we:
π Practiced CPR on training equipment that gave real-time feedback, so everyone knew they were doing it right
π Walked through the ABCs of water safety
πΈ Answered the questions every caregiver should be asking before summer
We'd love to run another this August for Drowning Prevention Month β because every caregiver deserves to feel ready.

Coach Highlight: meet Coach JP! ππΈ
One of the friendly faces who makes lessons something our swimmers actually look forward to β and his story comes full circle. JP learned to swim right here at DeMont as a kid, and now he's the one on the pool deck cheering your little ones on. π
A few fun facts about Coach JP:
βοΈ Favorite milkshake flavor: cookies & cream
βοΈ Best superhero: Spiderman
βοΈ Used to swim at DeMont as a kid β now he teaches here!
His coaching philosophy in four words? Teach through play. With a background in Montessori education for ages 3β6, JP knows that the more fun a lesson feels, the faster confidence grows. "Children are the future," he says, "so we give them all the kindness and guidance we can."
Come say hi to Coach JP at your next lesson! πΈ

Time to bust some swim-lesson myths π§
We hear these ALL the time. Let's set the record straight:
β "Floaties are okay as a safety device"
β False. Floaties can slide off and even deflate, which can lead to a dangerous situation. A properly fitted Coast Guard-approved life jacket is a safer option.
β "Babies are too young"
β We start at 3 months. Early water exposure builds comfort and confidence that sticks.
β "They'll learn on their own"
β Some kids figure it out. Most don't β at least not safely. Proper technique prevents bad habits (and scary moments).
β "Once they swim, they're drown-proof"
β No one is. Ever. Swim lessons are one layer of safety. Supervision, fencing, and water awareness are the rest.
Real skills, taught right. That's what we're about.

When work doesn't feel like work, it looks like this. πΈπ
Splashes. Giggles. Tiny hands letting go of the wall for the very first time.
Our values aren't just words on a poster β they're in the water with us every single day:
π Kindness, always
π Work hard (and have fun doing it)
π Seek growth and improvement
πΈ Be responsible
We're here to connect, encourage, and inspire through kindness β so we positively impact every family we get to teach. Best job in the world. βοΈ

Carrie and Rick recently had the chance to spend time with Leslie Daland, owner of Daland Swim School. One of the things we love most about the learn-to-swim community is how willing people are to share, support, and help one another grow.
What makes this friendship even more meaningful is that Leslieβs father, Peter Daland, was Rick DeMontβs Olympic coach. The swimming world is a small one. Itβs cool to see how these connections continue across generations.
We are grateful for friends like Leslie and for an industry that values collaboration over competition. Together, we make each other betterβand ultimately help more families stay safe around the water.
