Thank you for recycling right, Tulsa!

The results are in and our latest recycling audit showed a contamination rate of 22.72%, the lowest in program history since the program began in 2012. That is also a 6.06 percentage point decrease from the previous audit and the largest single drop we have seen. This progress reflects the work of Tulsa residents who are taking the time to recycle right, along with continued education and outreach from City staff. Every item sorted correctly helps keep more recyclable material out of the landfill and supports a cleaner, more beautiful Tulsa.

A quick flick out the window might not seem like a big deal, but cigarette butts add up fast.

They don’t break down for years, and thousands of them end up collecting in our streets, storm drains, and public spaces. Over time, they mix with other debris, clog systems, and create costly maintenance issues.

Right now, we’re also under a red flag warning. That means conditions are prime for fires and a single lit cigarette tossed from a car can spark something much bigger.

Please do your part:
🚫 Don’t toss cigarette butts out the window
🗑️ Dispose of them properly once they’re fully out

Small actions make a big difference in keeping our community clean and safe.
