BUCKET LIST STUFF: Last month, the Rumblers realized a years-long dream of taking the pilgrimage to baseball’s hallowed, holy grail. Cooperstown was terrific, y’all! Like the card shop owner of 37+ years whose granddaughter helped out behind the register. Or, the European gents who own the Italian bistro in town, inviting us to the “socialist hours”- a generous flow of w**e & conversation before business hours began. Or, the roadside brewery with its own Wiffleball park!
Sitting together as a team to take in the introductory film at the Hall of Fame was rife with surreal joy & emotion.
Not to mention the fields, themselves. Both tilts occurred on grounds where the Colossus of Clout himself had once stood, among countless other legends. Tremendous kudos to Joe for his constance and caretaking to keep Damaschke Field alive. Doubleday is almost too much to take in, and we might’ve just taken up residence in those dugouts, had they let us.
None of this would’ve been possible without the relentless kindness & hospitality shown us by Gabe Santos and his NY Sandlot cohort. The fact that the Baseball Hall is getting this injection of “Baseball For All Y’all” is due in no small part to the sheer enthusiasm & efforts of Gabe, Derick, and the gang. We’re immensely grateful.
