I lost myself in trying to please others.
Eventually, I learned something that took me a long time to understand.
Someone elseโs inability to treat you well doesnโt automatically mean you did something wrong. Sometimes you simply triggered something in them that they havenโt dealt with in themselves.
That doesnโt mean you have to tolerate it.
You can acknowledge that someone elseโs behavior isnโt about you and still decide you donโt want it in your life.
Thatโs a big part of what my book, โStand Tall & Take No Sh*t,โ is about.
Becoming someone who knows who they are, knows what they will and wonโt tolerate, and has the courage to stand by that.
๐ฅ Stand tall. Know your worth. Take no s**t.

After being a Division I gymnast, cop, coach, entrepreneur, and someone who has become borderline obsessed with human performance, Iโve learned a few things about people.
Some from experience, some from watching other people make the same mistakes I did, and some from getting my ass handed to me by life.
These are just a few of my random hot takes.
You donโt have to agree with me, but Iโm curiousโฆ
Which one stood out to you most?
And yes, CrossFittersโฆ I already know Slide 7 is going to p**s somebody off. ๐

Employee health isnโt solely an individual responsibility.
It isnโt solely an organizational responsibility either.
Both sides have a role to play.
You can tell employees to prioritize sleep, eat well, move their bodies, and take care of themselves.
If the culture rewards 12-hour days, constant availability, impossible workloads, and sacrificing personal needs for the job, youโre making those healthy behaviors harder to execute.
You donโt get to demand sustainable performance while creating an environment that makes sustainability nearly impossible.
Agree or disagree? Whatโs your take?

We are really good at judging people by how they show up.
Theyโre short with people, theyโre disengaged, and theyโre not acting like themselves.
โ So we label the behavior.
What we donโt always do is stop long enough to ask why.
๐ญ What would change inside your organization if employee health was treated as part of the performance strategy?
I go into more detail in my recent Lead Yourself First article titled โYou canโt separate the employee from the human being.โ

Every morning, I walked through the squad room and saw our departmentโs core values on the wall. The public saw one version of the organization. I knew what was happening behind closed doors.
That disconnect eventually affected my health and was one of the reasons I walked away.
In this weekโs ๐๐ฆ๐ข๐ฅ ๐ ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ณ๐ด๐ฆ๐ญ๐ง ๐๐ช๐ณ๐ด๐ต article, I unpack what I learned and why employee health is more than a benefit. Itโs part of the infrastructure that drives performance, retention, and growth.
Youโll also see the simple foundation organizations and individuals can use to support human performance, and what happens when both sides actually do their part.

Replacing a leader/manager can cost an organization roughly ๐๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฒ their annual salary.
The question isn't just how to retain them, it's whether you're investing in them before leaving becomes the better option.
Healthy people have greater capacity to perform, lead, and contribute at a high level.

What does human-performance support actually look like as part of an organizationโs retention strategy?
I unpack this question in this weekโs Lead Yourself First article.
