I’ve heard stuff like this a lot… “Well, that’s a trigger for me, so...” or “They already know that triggers me so they should have never done it.” And then the expectation is that everyone else adjusts? But that’s not exaaaactly how it works, or what this type of self work is even for.
When something sets you off, slow down and ask yourself what’s actually going on. Is it a need that’s not getting met? Something that matters to you that feels ignored? That’s where the Enneagram is so helpful. It gives you language for what’s happening underneath YOUR reaction.
Learning that language gives you options. Maybe you need a boundary. Maybe a hard conversation needs to take place. Maybe you just need to recognize it in the moment, breathe, and let it pass. Either way, you’re the one deciding what happens next, and that’s a lot more freeing than waiting on everyone else to get it right.
