Haters will say it's "too thick" or "you can't see through foilage". This buck was in some THICK NASTY stuff.
The biggest factor this time of year searching through a thick tree canopy is experience. Knowing what to look for and how to search an area is key.

This buck seemed to be hit good, but what started as a good blood trail, began to run out about 200 yards into the track.
He was located not far from last blood, where he likely bedded down. After watching him through the thick canopy for a while, it was determined he was dead after not observing any kind of movement whatsoever. The shot placement looks great, but these deer are extremely tough animals.

This was a super fun one last night.

This was his first velvet buck. He knew the shot was likely low, and after losing blood during the initial track, he made the right decision and backed out.

The drone wasn't in the air too long before the buck was located. This guy was up in some THICK stuff. After looking the buck over, we could tell he was laying on his side, not breathing. It was time to go in and grab this guy!

The 2nd buck we located last night was hit in a very similar area as the one in the previous post. It's crazy how tough these animals are. You can see in the video the full pass through, through the upper part of the shoulder.

It's been a super fun start to the season so far.

A quick one from earlier.

This hunter came up empty handed after a blood trail dried up.
It didn't take long to realize why. This was a full pass through on both sides, and appears to be high shoulder area. This guy was just munching away, with no care in the world. Hopefully another chance at him comes later in the season!

This buck got a little more than a haircut.

This hunter shot this buck quartered away, aiming for the opposite shoulder. After an unsuccessful recovery attempt during the initial track, he gave us a call.

After the buck was located, we were able to get eyes on the huge cut this guy had across his back. We suspect the angle was far sharper than initially expected. Hopefully this guy heals up fine. That's gonna be one heck of a scab!

Some opening weekend success!

This buck was slightly quarted to the hunter when it was shot. The shot initially looked really good, but things changed after the buck was jumped 60 yards into the first track attempt.

The hunter backed out knowing the buck needed some time. Not knowing where the buck went, we were called in to attempt to locate the buck dead a few hours later. After the buck was located with the drone, we realized the buck was gut shot. We recommended giving the buck atleast another 12 hours before recovery attempts.

After a short grid search of the area, we got the text the next morning of a successful recovery. You gotta love these early season velvet bucks!

The buck was found dead 12-14 hours after the shot and rigor hadn't even set in yet. These deer need TIME with a shot to the liver and/or guts.

Good luck to everyone out in the woods today! Make sure and pack your water, because it is gonna be a hot one.

✅️A few tips for this weekend.

-If in doubt, back out. We cannot stress this enough.
-Pay attention to the deer's reaction after the shot.
-Mark any blood you see. Grass, weeds etc are thicker this time of year and blood can be more difficult to find.
-Ice down the inside of the deer ASAP.
