A dance studio is a lot more than what happens on stage.

On any afternoon at South Coast Performing Arts, you might see a preschooler learning their first dance combinations, a ballet class working through technique, friends stretching together between classes, a competitive dancer rehearsing choreography, or a teacher helping a student work through something they've been struggling with.

There are busy days. There are challenging days. There are silly moments, proud moments and plenty of noise 😆

And that's exactly what we love about it.

For more than 20 years, SCPA has been part of the Tustin dance community, welcoming dancers and families from throughout Orange County.

Our goal is to create a place where children can develop their skills while also learning responsibility, perseverance, confidence and teamwork.

Because years from now, they may not remember every combination they learned.

But we hope they remember how they felt growing up at the studio.

This month, we're celebrating Courage with our SCPA Sticker Program!

And since it's October… we're having a little fun with it.

Our dancers will be looking for moments when they can be FEARLESS—trying something new, pushing through a challenge, getting back up after a mistake, performing even when they're nervous, or simply having the courage to step outside their comfort zone.

Because being fearless doesn't mean you never feel scared.

It means you don't let fear stop you.

Throughout October, our faculty will be watching for those moments of courage and recognizing dancers who show us what it means to be FEARLESS.

So this Halloween season, let's see what our dancers can do when they dance through the fear! 🖤🎃

Competitive dance is about much more than competition.

At South Coast Performing Arts, our competitive dancers train throughout the year to develop technique, performance quality, versatility, musicality and confidence.

They also learn what it means to commit to a team.

That means showing up, working through difficult choreography, receiving corrections, supporting teammates and understanding that everyone's role contributes to the group.

Our competition dancers have opportunities to perform, attend conventions and master classes, work with guest teachers and choreographers, and experience events throughout the season.

But we're just as proud of the growth that happens between the performances.

The dancer who finally lands a skill they've worked on for months.
The dancer who becomes more confident speaking up.
The teammate who stays behind to help someone else.
The student who learns how to respond when something doesn't go their way.

That's competitive dance at SCPA.

And that's why we believe dance training is life training.

Why does ballet matter—even for dancers who don't plan to become ballet dancers?

Ballet builds a foundation that can benefit dancers across many styles.

Through ballet training, dancers develop body awareness, alignment, balance, control, musicality and strength. They also learn the importance of repetition, precision and patience.

Those skills can carry into jazz, contemporary, musical theatre and other forms of dance.

At South Coast Performing Arts, ballet is an important part of our training philosophy because we believe strong technique gives dancers more freedom.

And ballet doesn't have to mean becoming a professional ballerina. A child can take ballet because they love the music and movement, because they want to improve in another dance style, or simply because they enjoy being in class.

For families looking for ballet classes in Tustin, we're proud to offer training for dancers at different ages and levels.

The goal isn't perfection.

It's progress.

What makes a dance studio feel like home?

For us, it's not just the number of trophies on a shelf or the size of a competition team. It's the relationships built in the studio every week.

South Coast Performing Arts has been part of the Tustin and Southern California dance community for more than two decades, and our focus has always been bigger than dance.

We want dancers to learn how to work toward a goal, handle challenges, support one another, take responsibility, receive feedback and celebrate the accomplishments of their friends.

Our dancers train at different levels and have different goals. Some dance simply because they love it. Others pursue intensive training and competitive opportunities. Both are important.

What connects them is being part of a community where dancers are encouraged to work hard, be kind and keep growing.

Does your child want to try dance but isn't sure where to start?

One of the most common questions we hear from new dance families is: What class is right for my child?

Our answer? Start with what interests them—and be open to exploring!

Every child connects with dance a little differently. Some are drawn to the energy of hip hop, while others love the structure of ballet, the rhythm of tap, the creativity of contemporary, or the upbeat feel of jazz.

Try different styles. Try different teachers. You may be surprised by what your child connects with—and sometimes the class they didn't expect to love becomes their favorite.

At South Coast Performing Arts in Tustin, we offer a variety of dance styles, teachers, and classes for dancers at different ages and stages. We're always happy to help you find a place to start and encourage families to explore until they find the right fit.

The best first class is the one that gets your child excited to come back.

Meet the people behind the training!

One of the things that makes South Coast Performing Arts special is the incredible faculty who bring their experience, energy and passion into our classrooms every week.

Our teachers don't simply teach steps. They help dancers understand technique, musicality, performance, discipline and confidence while creating an environment where students feel supported as they grow.

From our youngest dancers taking their first steps into a dance studio to our advanced competitive dancers preparing for conventions, competitions and performances, our faculty works to meet dancers where they are and help them move forward.

We are proud to have a teaching team that understands that every dancer develops differently—and that progress isn't always measured by a trophy or a trick.

If you're looking for kids dance classes in Tustin, we'd love for you to get to know our studio and the teachers who make SCPA what it is.
