You’ll never regret a class taken.
I can learn from any educator.
Of any genre. Of any experience. Of any quality.
Dance. Music. Math. Physical therapy. Writing. Equestrian. Painting. Sculpture. I could go on.
And I try to be a beginner at something often. Even if it means I approach the same exercises in my own practice with a great deal of curiosity, awe, and maybe with a different lens or theme that I picked up from the aforementioned list of educators.
I just made a comment on a post that made tonight about the art of picking ONE intention and teaching to that intention all class. It was just so well said. This afternoon, I joined in on the June scapula series that is hosting. It again left me inspired to create more meaningful experiences for the current trainees.
Being a student of something keeps you honest. And if you plan on being a teacher, you’ll always stay a decent amount of humble. That’s never a bad thing.

What if your imperfection was a sigh of relief to others?
Now, of course there will always be the few who will judge you for any sign of weakness.
But maybe you’ve been brave enough to start learning out loud. You’re getting pretty good at this “keep showing up” thing. And you’re embracing the process of progress not being linear. AND you have decided to keep learning Pilates even when it’s not instagram worthy.
Good for you!
I just bet you’ve released someone nearby from the impossible burden of perfection just by normalizing it.
Sigh.
Pursuing excellence can be coupled with being wildly curious. In my Pilates studio, we practice Pilates.
We are all just experimenting here to some degree.

What happens when we learn in isolation?
It might be like never writing thoughts and beliefs on paper. It’s one thing to think something is true and then a completely different thing to stare at your words, wrestle with inner conflicts, and expose thoughts to actual existence in a more tangible way.
And then like magic….voila!
The primary thought became more developed and mature.
I think that learning is a little like writing. I believe that it’s only when we learn out loud, test our theories, and make many mistakes that we can then see our existing belief. Curiosity always beats out false pride.
Back to Pilates.
Find a teacher that inspires you.
Get a mentor that questions you.
Learn the language of your craft.
Move your body to know the work.
Teach the thing over and over.
Be imperfect in the process.

Anatomy of Pilates Movement Lab nailed it again. All things regarding thoracic spine…what it does well and what it doesn’t.
Such a brilliant reminder as a human to allow for the passive structures, genetic make up of soft tissue, and the bony architecture of our bodies to do their job.
Thanks Cody!
Always learning,
