Vassar Volleyball had a full day of competition at the Mt. Morris Tournament, showing plenty of fight, strong serving, and some great defensive stretches throughout the day. 🏐
The Vulcans opened the morning against Mt. Morris, dropping both sets after struggling to get things going early. The girls responded in a big way against Martin Luther King, taking both sets behind strong defense and great serving. Vassar kept the momentum rolling against Fellowship United, once again winning both sets. The Vulcans then faced a fantastic Father Gabriel team and fell in both sets. Despite the loss, the girls battled hard, especially in the second set, and continued fighting against a very strong opponent.
Vassar advanced into bracket play, where the day ultimately came to an end with a two-set loss to Manchester.
Individually, several Vulcans put together impressive performances.
#2 Athena Fernandez recorded 24 digs, 6 aces, and 1 hit.
#3 Jayla Kus anchored the defense with an outstanding 71 digs, also adding 9 aces and 1 assist.
#4 Shaylee Cerda contributed all over the court with 15 digs, 5 kills, 14 hits, 2 aces, and 15 assists.
#5 Emily Bellamy finished with 2 digs, 1 kill, 4 hits, and 1 assist.
#8 Bella Elisech was a force at the net, recording 5 digs, 2 kills, 12 hits, 3 aces, and 5 blocks.
#9 Karmin LaRose added 3 digs, 1 kill, 3 hits, and 1 block.
#10 Eva Hecht turned in a great all-around day with 26 digs, 6 kills, 4 hits, 3 aces, and 34 assists, helping run the Vulcan offense throughout the tournament.
#12 Maya McCloud led the offensive attack with a huge tournament, finishing with 40 kills on 82 hits, while also contributing 28 digs, 7 aces, and 6 blocks.
Overall, it was a day that showed a lot of resilience from the Vulcans. After a slow start in the morning, the girls bounced back to earn four straight set wins and continued battling against tough competition through bracket play. Lots to build on as the season moves forward! 🏐
