I read somewhere that you can't be disappointed with your birthday if you make your own cake! The party I had was a lot of fun going with a retro 1950s ice cream shoppe theme. I decided to make a strawberry and whipped cream chiffon cake this year. Even though it's advised to assemble it right before serving, I decided to layer it in a way that it didn't bleed or get too soggy even though I put it together the night before. I also didn't slice the strawberries on the top so they stayed pretty intact. I added vanilla pudding mix to the whipped cream for some stability and flavor. I was very happy with how this cake turned out!
