Happy Monday and welcome to a new week! This week’s Monday Mindset is, “I am well”. Mondays can be overwhelming and busy between work, kids and school. This is a great affirmation to remind us to find a moment of gratitude within a moment of pause.

Did you know we change our brains as we change our thoughts and habits? Learning an instrument, a new sport or adding a new skill like today’s affirmation meditation will change our bodies at the cellular level. Rick Huganir, PhD, director of the Johns Hopkins Department of Neuroscience explains:

“When we learn something—even as simple as someone’s name—we form connections between neurons in the brain. These synapses create new circuits between nerve cells, essentially remapping the brain. The sheer number of possible connections gives the brain unfathomable flexibility—each of the brain’s 100 billion nerve cells can have 10,000 connections to other nerve cells.”

Set the timer on your phone for 1 minute, sit comfortably with your eyes close. Place hands at the center of your chest or wherever feels best to you today. Repeat, “I am well” on each inhale and exhale. I invite you to practice this at least once a day throughout the week. You can also repeat this affirmation throughout your day during any task. Notice your experience with this practice both internally and externally.

1 Minute Pocket Practice

Set the timer on your phone for 1 minute and sit wherever you are. Close your eyes and feel your body resting into the surface beneath you. Just breathe. Notice what it feels like to be in your body right here right now.

Pocket practices are simple, short and easy. You can carry them in your “back pocket” and use them whenever you need to.
