A friend of mine was generous enough to 3d print some parts to fix/improve my printer... and now I'm waiting on a $4USD bearing to show up before I get the i3 Mega back up and running.
It still blows my mind that I can- quite literally- 3d print parts to fix my 3d printer. I look forward to seeing where the technology takes us!
Already, we are seeing filament for standard fused deposition modeling (FDM- your stereotypical "3d printer,") that allows you to print in steel. It's a far cry from a standard, metal printer, and the price is still a bit high for my purposes, but the technology exists! It is accessible for the masses, and as time goes on, the market will only drive the price down.
The future is now, friends. We are living in a time the likes of Asimov and Verne could, perhaps, only dream of. We are far from perfect, as a society, but we are progressing rapidly into a bright and accessible future. @ North Pole, Alaska
