Registration is still open for Practical Strategies for Working Effectively with High-Stress Clients on Thursday, September 17, from Noon to 1:30 p.m. via Zoom.

Shannon Laskey, LMSW, of Michigan Counseling Collaborative will share practical, evidence-informed strategies for working with clients experiencing heightened stress, mistrust, emotional dysregulation, and other barriers to effective communication.

We’re pleased to welcome Matthew P. Allen as the newest member of the OCBA Board of Directors.

Matthew is a business litigator and trial lawyer at Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, P.L.C., where he leads the firm’s securities litigation team. His practice includes complex litigation and commercial disputes, securities matters, internal investigations, appellate work, and arbitration. He has handled matters in state and federal courts, as well as domestic and international arbitrations, and is also a court-certified mediator and complex commercial arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association.

We look forward to Matthew’s leadership and service on the OCBA Board of Directors.

One week from today, join the OCBA for Using Experts and Investigators on Tuesday, September 15, from Noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom.

Paulette Loftin, Chief Public Defender, and Lindsay Abramson, Deputy Chief Public Defender, both of the Oakland County Public Defender’s Office, will share practical guidance on using subject matter experts and investigators to strengthen cases, uncover critical evidence, and improve outcomes.

Through real-world examples, attendees will learn how to select the right experts, conduct effective investigations, integrate findings into their cases, and avoid common pitfalls.
