The Delayed News: Though President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, it was unenforceable in Confederate-controlled areas. It wasn’t until June 19, 1865, that Union Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Texas to read "General Order No. 3," finally enforcing the freedom of 250,000 enslaved Black Texans.

The white-spotted pufferfish is only about four inches long, yet its circular nest can stretch nearly seven feet across. He swims in careful passes, beating his fins to sculpt ridges, valleys, and a soft center of fine sand where eggs can rest.
Divers once thought these patterns were underwater crop circles. Then scientists found the culprit, a tiny fish with no hands, no tools, and absolutely no interest in doing anything halfway.
If a female approves, the circle becomes more than decoration. It becomes a nursery.
Love, in this case, is measured in sand grains.
