Thank you coach Matt!!

Matt has coached his last practice of the summer. Matt, a longtime Merced Skimmer swimmer, will be returning to Fresno Pacific for his Sophomore year. Matt is playing polo for the University.

This summer, Matt coached Waiders 1 and taught swim lessons. Matt, being a longtime Skimmer, was a champion of “quality over quantity.” He emphasized teaching technique while being positive for the kids.

Good luck your Sophomore year Matt! We look forward to having you back on staff next summer. Keep soaring!

We cherish the valuable experience of second swims and personal best times. Our R&J Championship team had a lot of them.

Aylin qualified for finals in every event she swam. She swam two personal best times and helped her team set three new Merced Skimmer Records. Way to go Aylin!

Florence finished the meet with a second swim and personal best time. Additionally, she dropped big time in her 200 meter freestyle leg of the 800 meter freestyle which helped her relay team set the new 15-18 girls 800 meter freestyle Skimmers record. Florence has been a Skimmer since she was an 8 and under swimmer. Florence has excelled in the pool, the classroom, and in ballet for years. She brings so much to the program. Way to go Florence!

Jason had a monster of a Championship meet. He showed off his hard work with 7 personal best times and 3 second swims. He even qualified for the next big meet up, Western Sr Zones, in the 100m free. Jason is one of our original swim lessons grads to go on to be a stand out swimmer in our area. Congrats on the gains!

Karyss made big contributions to the team. She was apart of three Skimmer Record setting relays and a second swim in the 200 meter backstroke. Karyss is one of the original lesson grad from Skimmers lessons that has emerged as one of the fastest swimmers in our area. Keep working Karyss, the best is yet to come!

Our season ends this Saturday. However, we will continue to celebrate our swimmers and their accomplishments this summer!

‼️ New Merced Skimmers Record ‼️

Congratulations to the relay team of Aylin, Karyss, Florence, and Valoria on setting the new Skimmers record in the 15-18 girls 800 meter freestyle record with a time of 10:05.61! Two out of the three girls swam personal best times including Florence dropping 6 seconds in her 200m free split and Karyss dropping 1 second from her best 200m free time. Both Aylin and Valoria had solid 200m free splits on route to a new team relay record!

The previous record was set in 2018 by the relay team of Emma Jackson, Kat Capulong, Emily Rodriguez, and Sophia Hart with a time of 10:33.33. So many memories, fast swims, and championship meets between you four. We hope you’re doing well. Once a Skimmer always a Skimmer!
