Surviving Coach Joe’s complexes… one rep and one questionable life decision at a time. 😂🏋️‍♀️

We joke about them, we complain a little, and we definitely stare at the bar like it personally offended us, but we keep showing up. Joe pushes us past what’s comfortable because he knows what we’re capable of. We’re getting stronger, building confidence, and becoming better athletes. And we’re here for ALL of it. 💪

Just give us a minute to reconnect with our souls before the next set. 🫠

Hey y’all! 🇯🇵❤️

I’m fundraising for the opportunity to compete at INWA Worlds and the World Masters Games in Japan next May! I’ve been looking forward to Japan ever since it was announced, and having the World Masters Games happening around the same time makes it even more special it only comes around every four years!

I know I’m starting early, but getting to this competition will take a lot of funds, and I’m relying solely on fundraising to help me and my coach, Joe Micela to get there. I’m planning some exciting events, merch, and other fun things along the way, so make sure you follow my Instagram spitfirefitness and performanceoneaz Instagram for updates! 💪

If you’d like to help, donations can be sent through Venmo to . And if you’re not able to donate, sharing this post means so much too! ❤️

I appreciate every bit of support. I love you all, and I can’t wait for the chance to compete on the world stage! 🌎🏋️‍♀️

Jenny Clouse didn’t set out to become a world champion. At 39, she was simply trying something new after a few friends convinced her to take an Olympic weightlifting class at Mesa Community College.

🏋️‍♀️ Arizona State Championships Recap! 🏋️‍♂️

We know this post is a little late, but we couldn’t let the Arizona State Championships go by without celebrating our incredible athletes! ❤️

It was a LONG day, but everyone showed up, worked hard, and pushed themselves on the platform. We saw lots of personal bests, gold medals, and Best Lifter awards across age categories! 🥇💪

We are so proud of every single athlete who competed. Your hard work and dedication showed, and it was amazing to see everyone come together and support each other throughout the day.

Congratulations, Team Performance One! You showed everyone what we’re made of! 🔥

Book review of Can’t Hurt Me: David Goggins

I found out about David Goggins several years ago through an interview that he did. I was very impressed with his mindset and attitude toward life. All of my life, I have been attracted towards our elite military personnels mindset and persona. I never served but developed similar thoughts and feelings as I progressed as a wrestler both in high school and in college. The mental approach to training and competition are very similar. There is a close comparison to wrestlers and our elite fighting soldiers. Pushing your body to the limits of physical conditioning Never being satisfied with your current level of strength and conditioning. Having no off button! Always rising to any presented challenge.

In this book, David takes you through his darkest days in life and how he through his own thoughts and actions pulled himself out of his current situation. He changed the narrative. Through trial and error David kept enduring. Little victories turned into bigger ones. With each no accomplishment came a new challenge both physical but more so mental. David was fighting years of physical and mental abuse at the hands of his father. He held it all in like a raging fire. Burning and growing in him forming his new personality. It was this fire that pushed him beyond ordinary. Like many others in the special operations community as well as elite athletes: stress, suffering, extreme discipline, and dedication are required day in and day out in order to become “uncommon” as David likes to say. It was in BUD/S that he developed the “Taking Souls” mentality. The “Breaking of the Will of others”, by not backing down and keep going came from. This is where “He can’t break me mentality,” all great performers have.

When I was younger and running through my neighborhood I was always trying to run faster and faster. I didn’t like to pace myself. When I entered track I ran similarly I didn’t like people in front of me so I would pick up the pace. My coach would tell me to slow down or I’ll burn out at the end but I didn’t care. I felt that if I pushed the pace my opponents would have to keep up with me and they wouldn’t be able to sustain it. That it would be a battle of Wills at the end. This was way before I learned of the famous runner Steve Prefontaine had the similar belief.

I embraced this characteristic of “just go!” David, like many other elite athletes strive for this mentality. A higher level of existence is all they think about. It is this internal competition with themselves, this internal fight between their internal demons, their mindset that has to be created in order to drive them towards their goals.

Since the beginning of time Humans have thrived off conflict and competition. The existence of chaos in our lives transforms us and sharpens are minds and bodies to adapt and improve. If not we perish and die mentally well before physically.

David’s take home message is that the mind and body can endure and overcome great physical odds. That our mind can push our bodies further than we ever thought possible. Never to give up in the beginning of starting anything it is always the hardest in the beginning but with each progressive step, rep, and set whether it is performing pull ups, conquering a difficult work assignment, or raising a family. You will find your groove and it will get better as long as you don’t give up. I didn’t say easier just better.

When you challenge yourself with physically demanding things often you callus your mind and body to handle other unplanned stressful situations.

I enjoyed this book and will implement many things from this book into my daily life. I need to push myself more and to awaken my inner competitive juices and find a challenge that pushes me physically and mentally.

All of times it is mental!!! Here are 3 ways to help with the mental block 1 — RESET
MISSED A LIFT? RESET BEFORE YOU RETRY.
We’ve all been there. You miss a lift you know you can hit.
Don’t let one miss turn into three.
Try this 30-second reset:
🌬️ Take 2 slow, deep breaths.
👟 Step back, re-chalk, and reset.
🗣️ Tell yourself: “Next lift.”
Clear your head. Trust your training. Get back to work. 2 — REFRAME
A MISSED LIFT IS FEEDBACK, NOT FAILURE.
One missed lift doesn’t mean you’re not strong enough.
Instead of thinking:
❌ “I’m not strong enough.”
Ask yourself:
✅ “What can I do better on the next attempt?”
Was it your timing? Your position? Your focus?
Learn from the miss. Make the adjustment. Move on. 3 — EXECUTE
FOCUS ON THE CUE, NOT THE WEIGHT.
The heavier the bar, the louder the doubts can get.
Stop thinking about whether you’ll make it.
Give yourself ONE job:
⚡ Fast elbows.
🦵 Drive through the floor.
💪 Stay tight.
Pick one cue. Commit to it.
Trust the work you’ve put in. Let it happen.

🏋️ **BIG DREAMS START YOUNG!** 💪🔥

Did you know that kids can compete in Olympic Weightlifting? And that they can start building a foundation in the sport at a young age?

Olympic Weightlifting is a growing sport, and we're seeing more and more young athletes step onto the platform, challenge themselves, and discover just how strong they can become!

Not every kid is drawn to traditional team sports, and that's OK! If your child loves a challenge, enjoys competition, wants to get stronger, or is looking for a sport where they can set goals and see their hard work pay off, Weightlifting might be exactly what they're looking for!

Here at Performance One, our youth weightlifting community continues to grow, and we LOVE seeing these young athletes develop confidence, strength, discipline, and a passion for competing.

And they're learning from some of the best! 🇺🇸 Our head coach Joe Micela was the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team coach and has over 20 years of experience. The coaches working alongside him have spent over a decade learning from him, training under his guidance, and competing him. That experience, knowledge, and passion for the sport are passed down to the next generation of lifters right here at Performance One!

Whether your child wants to compete on the big stage someday or simply learn something new, build strength, and be part of an incredible community, there's a place for them here.

💥You don't have to wait until you're older to start chasing big goals!
