In the horse world disrespect can be shown in many ways. USDF, USEF, AQHA and individual barns have rules for a reason. You either cheat, or disrespect the rules as a way of showing your character or immaturity. No one makes rules just because! Even the best riders have accidents and why many insurance companies require helmets. If you are required to have helmets and don’t enforce it you can lose your insurance!

Feeding horses lawn clippings is highly discouraged. Lawn clippings can lead to serious health issues for horses, including colic, laminitis, and diarrhea. The rapid fermentation of clippings in a horse's digestive system can create harmful gases, potentially resulting in life-threatening conditions

Health Risks
Colic: Lawn clippings can cause severe abdominal pain due to gas buildup.
Laminitis: This painful condition affects the hooves and can be triggered by improper feeding.
Toxic Reactions: Clippings may contain harmful substances from treated lawns or poisonous plants
Proper Feeding Practices
Stick to hay and pasture grass as primary food sources.
Ensure any forage is free from contaminants and safe for equine consumption
Conclusion
Overall, the risks associated with feeding lawn clippings far outweigh any perceived benefits, making it unsafe for horses

In Portuguese, the word Cavaleiro means more than horseman.
It means someone who lives with honor.
A quiet kind of authority.
Not loud. Not boastful. Just steady.

And that’s the truth dressage teaches, if you let it.

It’s not just about contact and cadence.
It’s about the self you bring into the saddle.
The self you sculpt through struggle.
The self that learns to ask, not force.
To notice, not demand.
To respond, not react.

Because when you spend enough time chasing collection, something changes.

You start bringing that feel into the rest of your life.
You relax before you snap.
You pay attention to energy, not just words.
You start to realize that control is an illusion, but awareness? Awareness is everything.

You become the kind of person who can hold big goals, without needing to prove it.

That’s what dressage gives you.
Not just better rides.
But a better way of being.

You don’t become a better rider to win in the ring.
You become a better rider to win in the world.

Taking a walk on a crisp morning can significantly enhance your horse's energy before you even enter the arena. This simple activity allows them to warm up their back and body before your formal warm-up and working session begins.

For riders who may not feel confident venturing out around the fields or farm, remember that building confidence is a process of small steps:

Start on the Ground: Walk your horse around the farm on a lead rope to familiarize them with the environment and build your connection.

Small Mounted Steps: Once mounted, take short, easy walks, gradually expanding your comfort zone.

Consistent, small steps like these will help you both gain the confidence you need to enjoy riding outside the arena.

Retirement is not an ending, it’s a door swung wide to pasture.

The horse who once carried you through pirouettes and piaffe now carries sunlight across his back, letting it ripple in muscles that once bowed to precision but now stretch into freedom.

There is no sadness here. Only the kind of joy that comes with watching someone you love discover a new chapter of themselves.

In the ring, Stanley was a poem I recited by heart. Out here, he is a story still being written, galloping beside his herd of friends, writing verses in the grass that no judge will ever score.

You don’t lose him by letting go of the work, you keep him by watching the years
turn into something softer. A nicker across the fence line, a slow walk to meet your hand, eyes that say “I remember.”

And you do.

Not with ache, but with gratitude so wide it could be mistaken for sky.

Because the greatest ride you’ll ever take is the one where you learn
that love outlives the arena.
