Pierceson Coody is playing his first-ever Open Championship like he’s been here before. A 3-under 67 in Round 1 — one of the best major rounds of his career — backed up by an even-par Friday to sit at 3-under and comfortably inside the cut line heading into the weekend.

Oh, and the golf runs deep: he’s the grandson of 1971 Masters champion Charles Coody . Fifty-five years later, a Coody is back in the mix at a major.

Royal Birkdale is firm, fast, and unforgiving — only 24 of 156 players broke par on Thursday . He’s one of them. 🏴
